Hy there guys, quick question for who knows( hopefully mr.fox), i have a m18x r1 with the 680m(oc to max with moded vbios by my self) and i want to upgrade to 780m or 880m, so which one is better? as i heard the 880m had a few issues, and how much diference will be on gaming when overclocking does cards compared to the 680m(oc) thank you

I'd say get the 780M as the 880M ain't really worth it.

Benchmarks here for the 880M and the 780M here, not much of a difference. This is stock btw.

I cannot advocate for the vBIOS OC and/or a potential OV. I can assume you can get a good 10-20% out of them (depending on the silicon lottery ticket).

WITH ALL OF THAT SAID. I'd say go with the 880M, as I can see it not much more expensive (even cheaper sometimes on eBay) than the 780M. Also it has a slightly stronger and has double the vRAM (8GB).

This is the best I could do on a GTX880m at 1.000V to keep it cool http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/9787982

with @Johnksss@iBUYPOWER modified vBios I could run the 880m with this overclock at 1V and it was super cool and had zero throttling. The maximum temperature I could see was 80C with Dying light sucking up 6 gigs of vRam and constantly having 100% GPU utilization. Otherwise, you will be in mid 70s C. That is of course with a good thermal paste.

My current 980m runs at same temps when I didn't have liquid metal paste, but now maximum I could see is 75C. So, if you paste the 880m with liquid metal like CLU it will behave more or less the same.

My card survived for around 1 and half years under these conditions and was in top notch shape/performance when I sold it after upgrading to 980m.

Honestly I don't remember exact numbers but what I do in every game is I lower shadow settings to minimum, turn AA and ambient occlusion off or use FXAA if the game supports it and then everything else on high-ultra depending on the game and the most demanding games I played were above 45 fps, while less demanding games were well above 60 fps.

thank you for that, at the moment I play on my gtx 680m dying light on max I can get <45fps, quantum break on medium 45-60 fps, far cry 4 on ultra I can get around 15-20fps(I get more if I tweak the settings a bit) :(, and the one that I want to play the most is forza horizon 3( badly optimized for less powerfull gpu`s) I get about 25-30fps on 1080p and the gpu is oc to the max. it is not bad as an old gpu can still run demanding games on med-high and get reasonable fps, it gets better if I use NVidia optimised setings but I still want to upgrade the gpu and wanted to know if 880m is getting better or does still have problems.

880m is an amazing GPU for its price. I believe I sold mine for like 350$ which is not that expensive based on how much improvement you will get compared to the 680 and also the fact that you can't use Maxwell.
