So thegreatsquare requested that I do a benchmark of my new graphics configuration (870M SLI) which I've been wanting to do anyway since I got this Sager a week ago as I haven't been able to find a single benchmark for it on the internet anywhere.
Please keep in mind that I'm entirely new to benchmarking, so if I'm doing something wrong or something looks fishy please let me know.
Also, despite 3DMark insisting otherwise, I'm running an i7-4810MQ. Although there's basically no difference between that and the 4900MQ besides a smaller L3 cache.
Furthermore, the clocks of both cards are at the stock 941 MHz. I'd rather not OC as I'm a complete noob with it and it's going to be another 5 or 6 years before I can dig myself out of enough college debt to justify purchasing another machine of this calibre again, so I need it to last as long as possible :b

I will update this post as I get around to benchmarking more games when I'm not at work. Cheers!

Excellent choice of machine- the Sager brand is in my mind, one of the best custom laptop mfrs. out there! Awesome, I hope you give that machine plenty of workouts to get its legs a good stretching!!

Awesome thank you back when i was considering this config there was no benchmarks

In regards to the 870M SLI, I forgot to ask, how are the drivers for the SLI configuration? I do not do a whole lot of high end gaming, however, I have built previous desktops for customers and they wanted SLI. I remember the biggest and most painful experience was giving them a stable system to enjoy the true benefits of SLI. Crossfire is just as bad.. in fact, I would say worse, god no.... never again.
It would be interesting to get personal feedback on notebook SLI configurations, and see how you think. Thank you!! -
Nvidia's SLI drivers have usually been pretty solid, but recently I've noticed that a few AAA games seem to be lacking SLI support. That said there are usually unofficial SLI profiles for games that haven't been officially supported.

Good to know. I haven't bothered with SLI or Crossfire in quite some time now. My only negative about them is how still game developers don't pay closer attention to the folks who are the diehards. It's a shame..they need to get their kookoo clocks set right and wake up with a bang and realize true PC gamers do not want console like wants/desires.

I personally love my SLI system as it seems to markedly improve performance in most stuff I play, and NVidia Control Panel makes it easy for me to disable one of the GPUs if I have a game that doesn't seem to want to play nice.
That said, I would probably only recommend it for higher end cards (870M, 880M, 780 Ti, etc) as it allows the system to pull its own weight if the SLI has to be turned off for the reasons mentioned above.
And yes, I am still working on benchmarking the games. I got a few more yesterday so I'll do those too.HTWingNut likes this. -
I have the same setup. So far I love it. Still torn on whether I should have paid the extra $500+ for twin 880Ms, but that has more to do with future-proofing than inability to perform on any current game. Agree that I wouldn't do lower than an 870m for SLI.

I'm less torn than you because dual 880M's were just too far out of my acceptable price range xD It was just frustrating picking either dual 870Ms or a single 880M because until now there were NO benchmarks for the 870M SLI; I personally was ballparking based on 770M SLI vs. single 780M since the cards were so similar.
Larry at LPC-Digital personally advised that I get a single 880M now and upgrade later, but I won't be able to afford to make upgrades for at least 3 or 4 years xD so I figured, ehh, may as well fill both GPU slots since I'm shelling out for an SLI-compatible laptop :b -
Nice results!
However, I can't find any european clevo builder who purposes the 870M SLI... sadly. -
Here you go) Prema unlocked bios + modded vbios for 870M, same CPU

And here we have 780M stock performance levels for a little less price! -
