My friend is interested in upgrading from his old Alienware M15x. He's interested in the G750JZ but the thickness of the laptop is turning him away. He saw a G750JS which is a little slower than the G750JZ with it having an 880m and the JS having a 870m. So he's wondering if a GTX 870m OC will outperform a stock 880m

No it won't and what's his budget? There are probably much better deals. A Sager NP 8651 can have a 970m for like $1400. A 980m can be had for like $1800 if you know where to look. You can also check out the Gigabyte P35w. The 880m is beat by both the 970m and 980m, but it's still better than the 870m by a decent amount. It is not enough to be surpassed by an OC.

Yeah a Clevo P650SE or P650SG have thin and powerful and cool running systems and inexpensive too for what you get.
