I think we will have to wait. I looked at Striker's benchmarks and the highest was like 70 but that's a short burst and I'm sure the fans weren't maxed.

I can tell you that Clevo changed the fan curve in the latest BIOS to only kick the fans up if they hit 90C and only leave them on til the cards hit 86C so they must be expecting these cards to stay in the low 80s with the fan on low in the P377SM-A.

For all of you panicking and trying to grab a system this early, it's unlikely you'll be able to. Companies ship these systems to retailers first (i.e. Amazon, Newegg, etc.) then customers buy them from these retailers. You will probably be able to buy them next week or the week after, and they'll start shipping the third week or fourth week of October.

    GTX 980M inside GT72.
Both Furmark and AIDA64 Stress test ran at the same time.

GTX 980M max out at 84C after 40 minutes
(Right click on the picture and click "show picture" will make it a little bigger)

I want to see how it handles in an Alienware. The GPU and CPU in the GT72 share a heat sink with each other.

For all prospective buyers from The Netherlands/Belgium: Dutch Clevo reseller Xnotebooks just confirmed that they're expecting to ship existing models with 970/980m at the end of October.

I'm only firing off my email now so that I can work out whatever Sager is willing to do before the hard launch and they get slammed with orders. This is an RMA I put on hold so I'm just reminding them :)

I really do want to see thermals though. Clevo 9xx BIOS fan curve is massively changed. 8xx BIOS - low fans til 87C, then kicked up to about 80% and stays there for the duration of gaming session. 9xx BIOS - low fans til 90C, then kicked up to about 80% and stays there til the cards drop to 86C before returning to low fans.

That's a crazy change to make if these cards don't run very cool.

Says 4k monitor at 60Hz too, combine that with the 980m and if this runs cool it could be the first truly viable 4k gaming ultra portable.

    Where is even Alienware?
I`ve seen Clevo, MSI, Asus and Aorus announcements but zero stuff from Alienware. One seriously slow company.

Holey moley, the P35X v3 looks smexy as hell! I wasn't even contemplating this one, seeing how ugly I thought the P25X v2 was, but now it's had a complete redesign it's right up there! Right... now the hardcore research begins! MSI GT72, ASUS G751 or the Gigabyte P35X v3... LET THE BATTLE COMMENCE!!!

Actually it will. New games are being released now with more vram minimum requirements. Not exactly 8 but it will allow more background stuff as opposed to just 4. Still probably wouldnt even meet 4 but I just it's more optimiized to handle what it's currently holding compared to older cards.

Anyone else notice max voltage on the GPUs was under 1v?

I wonder if that's a glitch... Because 0.9v on the 980M would be insane...

Those temperatures are still way too hot for what we expected with Maxwell. My 780M runs cooler, lol.

We need to see these cards in a good system (i.e. Alienware). Come on, Alienware. Stop screwing around trying to make a pretty website!

    Google Translate says:

    Availability: no, delivery October 31

BTW price there is for unconfigured incomplete system (no RAM, no HDD or SDD, no OS).

I tried to make an example configuration:

    Intel Core i7-4710HQ
    GTX 970M 3GB VRAM
    16 GB RAM
    256 GB SSD
    1 TB 7200 RPM HDD
    1080p display
    Windows 8.1

It came to 1,632 EUR (VAT included). So kinda in the similar range as MSI GS60 Ghost Pro.

Bumping up display resolution to 3K version brings price up to 1,702 EUR and using 4K display gets 1,914 EUR.

They have separate heatsinks, but the CPU has a heatpipe that shares the GPU's radiator.

Haha, I know! But seriously, if this P35X v3 doesn't thermally throttle at all with the 980M then it's an instant purchase from me. Whether I go for the 1600p version or the 1080p version will depend on how well the 980M handles 1600p.

Now another waiting game begins... I hope someone reviews it soon!

Aaaaaaaand I've just put in an order for the exact same Sager that I have now, just with no HDDs and a 980m.

Here's hoping I'm first in line to grab one of these. Little bit more of a wait than the other models but the savings are worth it ($1,700 on the dot almost).

Please have a look at the following photo:

Having the CPU's 3rd heatpipe share the GPU's radiator is not exactly the same as the CPU and GPU "sharing a heatsink".

"Heat sink" is what describes the pipes. They share a pipe. Therefore, they share a heat sink.

Not worth arguing over. Either way, the cooling is inferior to that of other systems.

This is my next laptop. I will order this now. Thanks for showing this last minute.

Why would I buy the 970m anything when I want a slick form factor when this is out.

You get slick form factor and 980m? Is this not the perfect laptop the best of the best ... Yes.

The only other thing I would consider is the 970 SLI one but i do not think the added performance and huge size is worth it. If it blew away the 980m maybe.

    What do you think?

Do you want the SLI x7 or this laptop and tell me why.

Indeed! If it doesn't thermally throttle and keeps temps reasonable then, just judging by the specifications, it is my dream laptop! :D

Reviews of this beast can't come soon enough!

EDIT: I will personally get the 980M and not 970M SLI because single GPUs work better than SLI when running sub-30fps games (i.e. no micro-stuttering) and also some unoptimised games can be buggy with SLI.

If I pre-order the the laptop now when do you guess it will be shipped? When are they actually releasing/shipping them?

Also what is the exact resolution of the 1600p version?

Will I be able to downscale to 900p prefectly? Will that cost me extra VRAM?

Any news about ALIENWARE updating their laptop to maxwell gpu? Also is it possible that we can have laptops with both maxwell and broadwell this year?

By the way for those who does not know ORIGIN PC is founded by a former ALIENWARE executive. They are the only pc botique who provide wooden crate for protection when shipping the product, good for customers living outside US.

    Notebookcheck.com says November:

Nvidia: GeForce GTX 970M und GTX 980M für Notebooks von Aorus, Asus, Eurocom, Gigabyte und MSI - Notebookcheck.com News

900p scales well with 1800p (3K) not 1600p AFAIK. Like I said, I may opt for the 1080p version, depending on how well 980M handles 1600p.

More likely a full GM204 chip with 2048 cores enabled, still at 28nm, in my opinion. Would still bring a ~20-30% increase in line with 680M -> 780M. Then 20nm Pascal either Q4 2015 or Q1 2016.

Thank You. This answer my questions exactly.

Exactly I am going to pre-order the 1080p right now.

Do you think for any reason anyone should go for the 970m SLI? I mean its so much bigger and bulky in comparison. I mean the only reason I am still considering it is because its still slim but still. Hmmm.

The 15.6 will fit into bookbag no problem and scream at 1080p. I bet it will run BF4 on ultra at 60 FPS no problem.

When do you think Amazon or Newegg will have this laptop for pre-order?

Any word on whether the 900m series battery performance will translate over to improved batter life when not gaming on systems without optimus tech?

You may want to note the Origin version has 6GB vRAM, the MSI has 3GB vRAM. Depending on what games you play this may make a difference for you.
