    Hey guys,

So for the past few days my idle temp is nearly 60 and constantly sits in the high 50's.

If I enable the turbo fans it drops down to 43-45 but as soon as i switch them off the temp hits nearly 60 again, and thats with just browsing around and watching videos.

Any Idea whats going on? Those can't be normal temps even for the 980.

    Thanks

It depends on the fan profile really, what temps where you getting before?

Agreed with Meaker, what was it before? 60 sounds high though.
What usually helps is cleaning the vents and fans with compressed air and possibly a repaste if it´s overdue.

Guys, so I updated my GPU driver today and also changed the nvidia power management from Maximum to Adaptive and it seems now my idle temp is back to mid 40's :D
Although If I get into a game (The Witcher 3, Dragon age Inquisition) it doesn't even take a minute to jump to 85+, with turbo fans i might be lucky to contain it to 83ish.

Is this behavior normal or am I just getting paranoid from the idle temps scare?

Use nvidia inspector multi display power saving

The 60c temp mean your card is p0 instead of p8

Well I just checked and it is P0 but my idle temp is not going over 45, should I change it to P8?

p0 or p8 is automatically selected based on the GPU utilization

the nvidia inspector multi display power savings can force a cad to p8 according to user settings

Right, so I shouldn't force anything since my idle temps are back to normal now right? (About 45)
Also is 85 acceptable for games such as Witcher 3, Hitman etc?

For the 980 desktop class in that chassis it's fine, so long as the clocks look decent of course.

I do get my usual 60FPS sometimes more, if I apply an overclock of about 150Mhz-200, then I don't think I can contain to below 85 definitely.

    Welcome to summer.

My GT72 has also been experiencing high temps too ...when I'm home and it's 75-80 or more inside. In the AC it's fine.

I just got mine like 2 weeks ago and I'm also sitting in that temperature range with just browsing and stuff. Highest I've seen was 87 while playing without the turbo fans. It goes to mid 70s when I turn it on.

Since, I've made this post my idle temps are now in the mid 40's thank god, but they do shoot up to 87 in ultra settings with an OC in demanding games.

Well I did a repaste and cleaned out the vents but since you've had it for 2 weeks, I doubt that makes a difference.
What could be different is that I use custom fan settings for CPU and GPU where I preset at what temps the fans should start and at what RPM.
