Currently i have an Origin PC 17x laptop with GTX980M. I'd like to upgrade to GTX1070. The motherboard is Clevo P775DM(-G). Is it possible?
    The CPU is i7 6700K.
Origins own tech says its not possible because the form factor is different and Eurocoms tech says 1070 has an additional power pin. Although i have seen 980M and 1070 cards being swapped in Youtube videos already without issue on Eurocom Tornado F5 laptop (not sure about the Motherboard there).
    Any thoughts?

The Eurocom can handle it. P775 can't as far as I'm aware. The boards are shaped differently.

    So couple of questions:

The Clevo P775DM2-G has the GTX 1070 card. I am not sure but I think the name refers to the motherboard because the p870 motherboard that Eurocom tech told me is the one they are using for gtx 1070 and 1080 is a separate clevo laptop on the left hand links. Heres the link:
    http://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_prodetail.asp?id=944&lang=en

Theres another one with similar p775 name and a GTX1080
    http://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_prodetail.asp?id=946&lang=en

The second question is about the bus. Both my 980M and GTX 1070 use PCI-E 3x16. so bus wise they seem compatible. i checked the pictures on ebay too - bus and size seem similar. is it then a power issue?

not sure if you can even fit the MSI 1070N card in. you may need to cut some of the internal structure out.

and that's what i was talking about. you would need to cut out some of the structural work of the laptop to get it to even fit because the card spills over both sides.

you'd need to remove the plastic between the RAM and the CPU and the plastic around the GPU fan to allow for that nub to fit.

but judging from the pic below as reference (with a bit of photoshopping), you won't even work since it clashes with the M.2 slot that's behind the fan as that nub on the right would sit on it.

ok now it makes sense. Thanks. do you have by any chance the actual dimensions of the mobile 1070 and 980M?

980M is the stock MXM 3.0b dimensions. i don't know about the MSI 1070.

EDIT: here are the 980M dimensions, i am sure you can extrapolate the dimensions of the MSI 1070.

you're probably better off selling the laptop and getting a new one. while the 1070 won't fit, the 1060 will/should fit but it's pretty much on par with a 980.

well its only 6 months old. given the price sell off wont fetch much. other than the GPU everything else is top of the line dekstop grade stuff. and there is no game or task right now that the 980M cant handle

lets see if i can get my hands on a mobile GTX 1070 and see how much bigger it is given the space

you could try an MSI 1060N. it's pretty much the GTX 980DT. it's still a boost regardless and judging by the form factor is might fit better than the 1070.

ok good news. just got this reply from Eurocom about size difference between 980M and GTX 1070

"There are actually two different designs of the 1070. One is as big as the 1080 in this video and the other is more similar to the 980M."

There's actually a whole thread dedicated to Pascal MXM designs and upgrade options on this exact same forum. :)
