What performance can one expect with a GTX560m, coupled with an i7-2670QM or equivalent?
I've scoured the usual haunts for benchmarks and the like, but was looking for a more realistic result from people with similar setups.
Battlefield 3 and Skyrim are my primary concerns. I will be gaming at a resolution of 1366x768.
Many thanks!

Baka thinks that a GTX560M will be capable of playing mentioned games at med-high without much problems with fps. In fact, having most settings at high may also be possible ._.
-
I'd appreciate it if someone could confirm how the GTX560m fares with BF3 at the specified resolution.
-
At that resolution? Most likely ultra for BF3. But why not at 1080p? I'm running high (with extras disabled) on a 560M GTX @ 1080p and it's really smooth.
-
Simply to squeeze the utmost amount of frames without sacrificing too much in the way of visual fidelity. 1080p isn't a necessity for me as far as gaming is concerned.
What frames are you getting presently? -

@720P? you'll be running ULtra on BF3 with a 560m. Confirmed.
-
Are you speaking from experience? If so, what frames could I expect at ultra?

I am speaking from experience...i have an Asus g73 with GTX 460 OC'ed to faster than 560m speeds. The 460/560 are essentially the same card as they have the same number of nvidia cores but the 560 has faster stock clocks. My wife plays BF3 @ 900p with ultra preset and it is fluid.
At 1366x768, it would be completely smooth on ultra -
Some FPS figures wouldn't go amiss, but otherwise, much appreciated.
-
It's very hard to give you FPS figures in BF3. It's a sporadic thing, sometimes nothing is happening and you're getting around 50 then slight crossfire and explosions make it ~30 and when it's 32+ people in a heavy fight, it does get choppy ~20 occasionally. An 'average' FPS would not be telling you the whole story. This is on 1080p high and I forgot to mention my GPU is OC'ed, so expect ~10% less FPS on stock.
-
I'll stick to the "high" preset in light of what you've said. Anything with greater fidelity than the console versions is sufficient for me.
-
I would honestly start top to bottom. Start at the highest settings and slowly work your way lower until you find that comfortable point where you don't sacrifice a lot of eye-candy while sustaining comfortable FPS.
-
I'm content knowing the GTX560m is a capable GPU. What is it's desktop equivalent?
-
I believe the equivalent is an overclocked GTS450, with higher memory bandwidth I believe.

I would do it the exact opposite way. I like seeing the frame rate be as high as possible, and then finding the point where I start to notice a slower rate.
Sort of depends on how you think, but it doesn't really matter.
To talk about something of substance, if visual fidelity is important to you, I would look into increasing the resolution of the game as well as settings. I personally would rather play at 1080p and medium settings than 720p and ultra. The extra resolution contributes to image quality in a huge way. -
got a gt555m clocked to stock gtx460 performance (ish) and as long as MSAA is set to off then yes, you'll be running on high/ultra (there's not much difference between the 2) at 768p at around 40fps without issue
-
In the end I'm sure we end up at or around the same point. My point was, everyone is different. Asking for a concrete FPS number doesn't tell you much, it's your decision as to what you feel is playable and what you think looks good.
-
I've never played BF3, but from what I HAVE played, at 768p it should be able to accomplish anything.
And just fyi, do NOT get the 2GB 560M. Only the 1.5 and 3 GB ones. The 2GB is 128 bit. -
Notebookcheck has figures on BF3 for the 560M now, and they're reporting an average of 37 fps with full AF / no AA at 720p. They so seldom say what part of the game they use for their run, though, so it might be a worst-case-scenario measurement.
-
Where does it state they're running the game at 720p for those benchmarks? The test model used is an Medion Erazer X7813 which has a native resolution of 1080p.
-
I have the Medion x6813 (see my sig) and run BF3 with these settings:
1440x900, Textures ultra, all high, no AA, FPS: 50-75 avg 60 and never go below 50fps which is the point to me. -
Would you be so kind as to post a screen capture of your settings for future reference?
