    Hi all,

on my new Lenovo Y580 (and also that of my roommate), we're observing a peculiar problem.

When on the desktop, everything is normal - beautiful and rich colors. However, as soon as some game (eg Dota 2) is launched, for some reason the colors look gray and not smooth, while images where the color gradient changes gradually show significant banding. This issue persists when on an external monitor also when connected to HDMI. I doubt that this is an individual hardware problem, because like I said, my roommate's identical Y580 also shows the same problems.

The drivers used are (295.55 stock) and 304.79, Intel driver is 8.15.10.2656. My NVIDIA control panel only shows one group of options - 3D Settings. Items like flat-panel scaling etc are all absent.

Anyone have an idea as to what's going on? Much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

Edit - also, this is 100% certain to be NOT a temperature related problem (problems observed even in the splash screen of a game upon startup).

Do you have another machine with a different GPU that you can test to see if the phenomenon repeats itself. While you have tested it with different machines, both of them have the same config.

My rationale behind this is to see if this is a config thing or a DotA thing.

I'm almost certain that it's a configuration thing. I have another laptop with an HD5650 which doesn't show the issue at all.

I'm quite confused at what's going on. When I connect an external monitor to the computer using HDMI, the image quality of the output is pretty bad. The background of my external monitor is gray when it's supposed to be black, with noticeable blotchy spots moving across it. Why is that?

Yes - I tried with the stock drivers 295.55 and the newest beta 304 series driver from NVIDIA's site... still no good.
