Hi Im looking at buying Aorus.

Their new SLI 15" model will have GSYNC with twin GTX965m's on a 3K screen. Alternatively they do a 15" model with single GTX980m and NO GSYNC on a 4K screen.

Can you advise which will give the best visual experience please ? Im a bit of a noob when it comes to knowing the implications of the variables here. Thanks.

SLI has its share of issues. If the game doesn't support it or the driver is crap, you're stuck with running on a single GPU. I think the 980m is the better option but with 1080p G-sync is best of all worlds.

This isn't a question. Single 980M is better. Even 3K vs 4K, the awful memory bus width of the 965Ms and the large number of new games that will ignore the second 965M will just mean you'll be on a single 965M at 3K. Not going to be very nice.

That being said, you should likely ignore both options and consider a P650RG with a 1080p screen and gsync, if you want something somewhat small but powerful, unless you really want Aorus and can find a 1080p model.

3K and 4K for gaming on laptops are little more than gimmicks with how much power is available in the machines. Maybe by the time we have Volta and AMD's equivalent in laptops, a 3K or 4K screen might be viable in a laptop for the primary purpose of gaming.

Because they are beautiful to look at and you don't have to game at 4K

To the OP take the 980M every time.

Exactly this, go for the nicer screen as long as it has a good refresh rate (60+), you don't have to run games at 4K if performance is an issue.

Games look nice scaled down on them, particularly if you find the sweet spot resolutions, and desktop work is gorgeous. I've found for Windows 200% scaling works really well on a lot of these high res screens for my needs.

I won't be buying another 1080p screen in any machine if I can help it.

I also agree, go with the single better gpu, SLI is just not worth the hassles a lot of the time, and the micro stutters that often occur drive me nuts.
