I'm getting a new computer soon (it's in the mail) and I'm trying to find some good games to play on it. I'm not worried so much about Benchmarks; I just want some fun games that I can play off and on and thoroughly enjoy. I dislike "realistic" games, such as Medal of Honor. They bore me far too easily. I've done some research and decided to buy the following:

    Prototype
    Crysis
    Diablo II

I'm also trying to decide between The Witcher and Oblivion. I don't want both because the genre is similar and I don't want too many of the same kind of game.

Aside from just general game suggestions, I'd appreciate a 'rating/review' of The Witcher and/or Oblivion. I don't know much about the gameplay, how combat works, and what exactly the point of both games is.

And one last thing. I've only ever played RTS's, 1st-person-shooters, and WoW on my computer, all of which have been playable by using only WASD. the Space Bar, and my mouse. Is it much more difficult to play a game like Oblivion or the Witcher without a gamepad?

    Thanks.

well I guess witcher is better as what ive heard (havent got too much into it) cause oblivion is cool but at the end tends to get very repetitive and that makes it kinda boring, oblivion is a first person rpg/shooter and the witcher is totally an rpg.

Ill recommend you to go for the witcher (in my point of view)

btw medal of honor series are no way near realistic, theyre more like an action shooter like crysis, or do you mean realistic like not sci fi?

M17x looks nice. I configured one only to dream. Actually it was fairly priced IMHO, and very configurable. Quad Core 2.0 GHz, dual GTX 260m GPUs, 4GB 1333MHz RAM, 2x512GB 7200 RPM HDDs, 1920x1200 screen, Blu-Ray player came to just over $3000. I was expecting more. Nice machine, have fun with it!

In addition to Crysis and Prototype get Bioshock. Fun great game. Also get Riddick if you liked the first one.

Doesn't matter since the first game is included (and enhanced) with Assault on Dark Athena. Butcher Bay is worth playing thru again.

Yeah, that's what I mean by realistic. It has to have aliens or dragons or something like that in it to keep me interested. lol

my top picks at the moment are:
    mass effect
    mirrors edge
the orange box (any valve game really)

all of these are extremely fun :)

if you can pick up a copy of KotOR 1 and 2 you'll be happy with those too, but they arent anything you will care to show off your new awesome laptop with. the top 3 are though, expecially the top 2

oh and in witcher vs oblivion i'd suggest the witcher, i hate oblivion and so far the witcher is very fun.

Right, Oblivion and The Witcher are waaaaaaay easier to play on a kb+mouse than with a gamepad, IMO. Especially Oblivion. The Witcher seems like it wouldn't be too bad on a gamepad, but I played the whole thing on kb+mouse and it felt just fine.

... Aaand D2? Really? On an m17x? That's not really effective use of resources there...

I hope your processor doesn't bottleneck your gpu's since it's only a dual core. Why didn't u spend a bit more cash and get a quad core or something?

Oblivion is much better than the witcher although i did enjoy that aswell.
But oblivion i've racked up over 400 hours on with different characters, it's a game i just keep coming back to, completely recommend it.

It won't.. trust me. And I didn't get a Quad Core because the computer was a gift and asking for the higher-end Quad Core was asking too much (it was expensive enough already), and I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that a low-end Quad Core wasn't as useful for my intended usage as a faster Dual Core.

What a fantastic gift!! Congrats, you must be loved :)

And I am going with a faster dual core this time instead of the slower quad, too , in whichever brand I decide upon.

I prefer killing aliens over people too , btw.. Good list of games everyone mentioned.
