Hi, I'm looking for a single player game. No open ended games. I don't want to waste extra time in the game. Just a good 20 hours or w/e and finish it.

    An RPG/Shooter would be nice.

Most likely it is going to be an 2007 or older game, because I have played pretty much any 2007 till now game. That fits in the shooter/rpg genre.

    Thanks.

    F.E.A.R 2?
    I was gonna say F.E.A.R but that's pre-2007. =P

and Fallout 3 is much more than a good 20 hours. =P

I haven't played it, but most people say good things about it, and its only $5 right now @ Direct2Drive, so that's hard to go wrong :)

But I thought Stalker is an open ended game...

And if that's the case, don't miss Fallout3, you don't have to do the side missions and can finish the main story line very quickly. Shooter/RPG pretty much sums this game up lol. But if you have any interest in Fallout3, wait til October, the Game of the year edition comes out and has all 5 DLCs with it.

I'm gonna recommend BIOSHOCK, one of my all time favorite games, its also $5 at D2D. That's a steal for this game.

The 5 buck deal is why I was asking for it :p.

I already played fallout 3, all of the DLC. Except the space ship one.
I recently played Bioshock, I liked it. But I think it was WAY overrated. People where worshiping at the game's feet, but I think it is not that OMG! kind of game.

Wolfstein looks bad *a,ss* though, I might go for that one.

Ditto. I liked both the setting and the way they conveyed the main plot. Though the game didn't offer anything overly special or unique to deserve half of the hype it got and is getting.

One game that does deserve its credit however, is Half-Life. Both 1 and 2 are brilliant games. Probably among the best shooters I've ever played.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is an unfinished series. So far, both games have relied on user content to liven it up and make it interesting. So buy it with the intent of modding, and make sure you can run it, some of the stuff looks purdy.

    RPGs:
    • Neverwinter Nights/NWN 2
DnD based RPGs, the normal campaigns definitely go over 20 hours if you want to do everything, but you can download user created campaigns of any length and style to suit your desires, and there are many to choose from.
    • Marvel Ultimate Alliance
Nice beat-em-up style RPG that's easy to get into and a good amount of variety by switching up your characters (they all level together). Great if you are a fan of comics.

    Shooters:

    • Halo PC
Download the free (for Halo PC owners) Custom Edition of the game to greatly enhance the multiplayer experience with better netcode and the ability to play user created content. And the single player of course is amazing as well.
    • Half Life 2
The must have PC shooter, pretty good single player campaign, and a meh multiplayer component, but it gives you access to the largest and highest quality assortment of mods in all of PC gaming.
    • Unreal Tournament 2k4
Fun jump in and blow stuff up multiplayer, and plenty of people still play it. This game also has some pretty good mods.
    • Resident Evil 4
Part shooter, part RPG, part survival horror, all awesome. Reviews bash the PC version for bad graphics and a lack of mouse controls (mouse controls would make the games shooting mechanics way too easy), but there is a community patch that kicks the graphics above and beyond any of the console versions, and the game works well with any PC compatible controller pad. And personally I find the keyboard aiming just fine anyways after taking a few minutes to get used to it. Oh, and the game has a nice mod community too, but as a console port there are limits to what you can do with modding. There is a mod to give it mouse controls though.

Giving us a list of what you've played in the last 5 years will go a long way to saving us from wasting time, posting games you've already been through.

Oh and I couldn't stand STALKER, it just felt totally unpolished, but maybe mod content can fix that.

I got my self Wolfstein, although I might also look into the Resident Evil 4 one. Many people in this forum has said something good something about it. So it must be good.

    Thanks for the comments.

Edit: and I agree with you Loki, the best shooter series I have played, period. It is the Half Life one. Nothing comes close, and probably nothing will. Who knows though?
