To pick up where we left off in discussing game recording software I found a good project for myself to work on so that I can aid the community.

I think its time for one person like myself to take the time and actually use and evaluate every one of the current mainstream capture programs and then break it down into a comparison showdown and review.

There probably wont be any clear "best program" however the results will be a clearly defined pros/cons about each program and highlights about what the program is good for and what is is not.

Upon completion you would be able to determine what program might be best for you and why.

I plan to make it into a video comparison however I probably will come up with some written documentation for this one as well since I generally write articles better than I produce videos and the project will take a good amount of personal time thus it merits the effort needed to do both a written review and a comparison video.

To start things off lets get a conclusive list of all the programs to be tested, I'll list what I know and you guys post back with the ones you know of that should be tested that I missed. Please include a link of where to download it as well as any other relevant information like ways to make the program work better, why you like it, why you dont like it, etc.

All the programs must have a free trial or be free to use as I wont be paying for them just to test them.

    Here is the master list.

FRAPS - FRAPS show fps, record video game movies, screen capture software
Camtasia - TechSmith | Camtasia Screen Recorder Software, Home
Jing - TechSmith | Jing, instant screenshots and screencasts, home
    VirtualDub - Welcome to virtualdub.org! - virtualdub.org
    MSI Afterburner - MSI Afterburner
Xfire - Xfire - Gaming Simplified
ZD Soft - ZD Soft Screen Recorder, Screen Capture, Screen Sharing, Capture Streaming Video, Game Recorder
WeGame - Video Games, Xbox Games, PC Games, Computer Games, PS2 Games, and PS3 Games at WeGame.com
Taksi - Taksi: Video capture/Screen capture for 3D applications
    GameCam - Game Cam Portal
Guncam - Growler Guncam video game recording software
PlayClaw - PlayClaw : Game Video Recorder alternative, Game Screen Capture, Ventrilo Teamspeak overlay, Game Recorder
    Dxtory - Dxtory.com | Home

May opt out some of these programs if I find major flaws in them to prevent it being competitive like it has not seen an update in the last 4 or 5 years, or it is not compatible with newer OS's & games.

So I will start investigating and working on it as we speak as a little side project. Hope the final result is big and helpful to everyone interested.

I have been using Fraps most of the time when i record my Dolphin gaming ect, but sadly my notebook is not fast enough to emulate certain games + proper sound with the LLE plugin & keep Fraps on.
(Also had to record at 60 fps on the Wii games to ensure that it would be lagfree)

While the lighter HLE plugin is a option it has several problems with some of the more popular games.

In the description on PlayClaw it says it wont cause slowdowns on a multicore CPU so could you check if thats actually true? xD
