im kind of frustrated right now because i OC'd this 8700mGT about a week ago (776/1650/938) - and it was running beautifully as far as i know. never a problem at all. now since yesterday everytime (or most of the time i should say), it will run for maybe 5 minutes and then just eventually freeze and crash in cod4

i tried lowering the OC clocks but that doesn't seem to do anything now :( i was so happy to play COD4 with my 8700mGT at 1280x800 w. 2x AA.....i can run a much higher clock and 3dmark06 will run it just fine with no crashes and no temp higher than 65C

anyone have ideas why im crashing?

How much did you lower clocks? Completely back to stock speeds?

no, like 50 on each clock - i just dont understand why it woulda worked flawless for a week and then decide to start doing this. and its non predictable too - for example, i was playing this morning at this clock 730/1650/900 and it was playing perfect for hours... then i played about an hour ago with the same clocks and it crashes

You overclock -> It becomes unstable -> You reset to stock speeds.
If the problem *then* doesn't go away, post again.

But that really should be the absolutely most obvious and straightforward thing to try.
Yes, computers get unpredictable when overclocked too much. Yes, it sometimes runs for hours, and sometimes it crashes within seconds. That's because you're overclocking, and overclocking is not a guaranteed or reliable process.

As long as your system is overclocked, there's a risk it's going to be unstable. As long as it's unstable, it's clocked *too high*. So lower speeds further (or just set them back to stock speeds and see if it becomes stable)
