So what are the people of notebookreview game or games of the year (2010)?
I know there are so many to choose from and its a little late to discuss this since, but whatever.
If I had to choose 1 it would be Battlefield Bad Company 2 + Vietnam Expansion.
It has not even been a year yet and I have already put in 330+ hours into this game!
Honorable mentions:
Mafia 2 - enjoyed the story and the atmosphere of the game and how it made me feel I was in the 50's.
Mount and Blade Warband - the original was great, but this improved on everything that was good in the first game and there is multiplayer!
Beat Hazard - A space shooter controlled by your music! Loved it!
Splinter Cell Conviction - One HELL of an AWESOME game! Felt like I was playing a summer blockbuster movie.
Biggest disappointment:
Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2 - only thing they did right was made loading fast compare to the last game.
So what is everyone else game of the year 2010?
-
-
Mass Effect 2: Streamlined the RPG elements from the first game while introducing characters you actually care about and an epic storyline. Improved upon almost everything from the first game which was already a GOTY contender in 2007/2008. The class specific special abilities made multiple play-throughs different and enjoyable. On top of the excellent base game Bioware also added some excellent additional content through quality DLC. ME3 will be hard pressed to beat this.
-
I'd say Bad Company 2 is probably the best this year. I always go back to play it every now and then and still have lots of fun.
Starcraft 2 was more addicting than Bad Company 2, but it got boring after a month or so. Very nice game design by the way. -
My choice: no game made in 2010 deserves the title.

My game of the year is not the one that took the most time from me nor will I replay it the most. It simply wins because its fun, innovative and totally original.
Super Meat Boy
There has be no game I have played in my life probably that has been so hard yet fun to play at the same time, and nothing is impossible or feels unfair.
So when you finally beat that one thing holding you back for 500 deaths the sense of accomplishment is so grand that no other game has ever given me that feeling.
I also love how its all retro and old school with parodies and things.
Definitely my 2010 game of the year.
Runners Up:
Starcraft 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 -
Im seeing alot of bad company 2. i heard from my freinds that the game sucked. however, they all play the 360 version. is the pc version that much better? if so i may just pick it up.
My choice(s):
Mass Effect 2 - best overall
Super Meat Boy - best indie title -
Alpha Protocol
-
As for the goty, dont rly have one that stands out. -
I agree with the Bad Company 2 + Vietnam Expansion. Easily the best game combo I've played this year.
Starcraft 2 was pretty fun but got boring very quickly. After a month or two I haven't played the game since. 18 months till the next expansion? No thanks!
Mafia II was pretty and had a great storyline, but was very repetitive. It was fun but not great in my opinion..
I loved Fallout: New Vegas at first. But the terrible bugs and performance really hurt that game. In addition it didn't feel nearly as polished or great as Fallout 3 was. Kinda hard to have a post nuclear bomb world that has working machines, electricity, and neon lighting everywhere. I think it took a lot away from the feel of the game...
/rant from a PC gamer snob.
In all serious though, its worth every dime you spend on it. I've played a LOT of shooters over the years and this is by far the most fun I've had in an FPS. Great maps, great weapons, very immersive environments.. Its just absolutely fantastic. -
Mass Effect 2 wins it for me, easily.
Runner-Up #1 - Dawn Of War II: Chaos Rising. The plot twists had me saying WOW, in a way I haven't before.
Runner-Up #2 - Alpha Protocol -

My vote goes to Bad Company 2. It had a somewhat rough start, but it has more than made up for that by now, and it's one of the most fun games I've ever played.
-
Super Mario Galaxy 2. Strictly PC? BC2 or Mass Effect 2.

Mass Effect 2.

I have to agree, Battlefield Bad Company 2, was a game I never really looked into, but one of my friends posted about it on facebook and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. So having bought a new notebook this past Thanksgiving, I wanted to throw some modern software to benchmark my new system.
At first playing the single player game was, meh, been there done that, so I thought, whatever, gonna get me Modern warfare 2. I played Modern warfare 2 and loved it because Modern Warfare 1 was my all time fav. I kinda got bored and wanted to try the multiplayer Bad Company 2, and still I was like, meh, this is so pathetic, but as I spent more time on it and learned how it plays and got used to it's pace, MAN! this is the ! I mean, I used to search and watch Iraq war videos on youtube, and Battlefield Bad Company 2 actually makes me feel like I'm in one of these war videos. It's that much more real and immersive and actually made me not like playing Call of duty series as much anymore .
I'll give the Call of Duty series the upper hand in single player story and game, but multiplayer, Battlefield Bad Company 2 all the way!
To anyone that didn't play it yet, at first you might not really like it, but after the learning curve, I guarantee you'll love it. Be warned though, this game is just as demanding on hardware as Crysis is, and to get good framerates you'll have to have at least an i5 with a GTX 460m. I have this set up and I get 40-60 fps, everything maxed even AA and AF, but turn off HBAO since that really taxes the hardware. -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
BFBC2 is not even close to Crysis in hardware requirements. I can max it easy on all my systems but not Crysis.
-
Mass Effect 2 is the obvious choice although the combat system was a let down the story line wins it outright. I want to add BFBC2 as an honourary mention but I'm bored of shooters and twitch games.
-
Games for 2010 on PC was pretty barren. I can only think of two games and no honorable mentions.
Mass Effect 2 for Action semi-RPG.
Civilization V for requiring some IQ.
I'm not a SC2 player so I don't care -
BC2 eats most cards up pretty well. Its not as rigorous as Crysis but you still can't max BC2 out on most cards except for top end (At least not at normal resolutions). NVIDIA?s GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470: 6 Months Late, Was It Worth the Wait? - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News
Also, I think the low end for BC2 is higher than a lot of video games mid to high end settings. My old M15x in my signature can only run BC2 at minimum possible settings (minimum settings after editing the Settings.ini folder and forcing dx9 @ native 1440x900 resolution) and still only averages 30-35fps. -
I can max BC2 with 40-70 FPS with 16x AF and 1x AA with HBAO on.
I can't max Crysis, not even close. With Crysis maxed, it's not even playable, it's stuttering. -
BFBC2 + Vietnam is my choice.
-
If I remember correctly Crysis is a lot more CPU intensive. Once you get to a certain level CPU they should perform as the benchmarks above show. But below that than your probably not going to be able to run Crysis nearly as well as BC2 even though, graphically, they are within 10-20fps of eachother on the same video card. -
my vote goes to Rogue Warrior . any one????
JK
BFBC2 -
Despite putting in more than 180 hours in Bad Company 2, I have a hard time recommending it for game of the year. It just had too many glitches and bad net code that it was more frustrating than fun half the time. I would have probably kept playing if all that was fixed, needless to say it wasn't. I've started up with Vietnam now, and it's fun and seems to be improved a bit though.
I really have a hard time recommending anything for game of the year 2010 to be honest. Starcraft 2 maybe. But that's probably a shoe-in anyhow. -
BFBC2. Campaign is good. The multiplayer is so good. You have to get past your individual driver issues first, but once you settle in on one that provides the least amount of problems you can bear to live with, it becomes an awesome experience.
I also loved the single player campaign for MOH. Yes it was too short, but I really enjoyed playing it and have replayed the campaign more times than any other FPS. Too bad the multiplayer sucked so bad. -
It's also proof that BFBC2 is on par with Crysis as far as software that demands so much calculations that it brings even state of the art in hardware to a crawl. Anyway yes BFBC2 does have it's flaws, such as hit detection that can get annoying, but for immersive factor this game has it if you got the hardware to run it in all it's glory. Oh and use the "war tapes" option for audio... -
My vote goes for call of duty black ops.. Excellent game and may not be as good as BC2 in some respects , overall i still prefer it.
Panther214 -
I keep meaning to Google what the war tapes function does. Thanks for reminding me! -
BC2 is the best in fps
ME2 in 3ps
and bc2 is best played in pc, those who say it sucks because they can't see the real beauty and effects of bc2. -
BC2 - FPS
Civ V - Strategy
Assassins Creed Brotherhood - RPG -
Why not just bill games like ME, FO3 and NV as a "FPS with PAUSE" !
Well at least the Witcher 2 is coming out soon.................
Err.............nothing really stuck out in 2010 !
BTW.................screw the Zombies, where the hell is Episode 3 Valve ? -
I don't even have to think about this one. Farming Simulator 2011.
But seriously, I don't know. I'm terrible at these decisions. -
Never played ME2, but I don't doubt that it's an amazing game.
As for Bc2, I love the game, but it just could have been so much better. It's glitchy, EA servers suck, and it's a console port. There are very few unlocks and it doesn't feel too rewarding. Plus, if the developers focused a bit more on the PC port it could have been much better. The game is loads of fun, but it just needs to be tuned up a bit. -
Mass Effect 2 should win. Story, gameplay, & character development are second to none for 2010. I can see how some people may not like that type of game, but they did a great job of putting it all together. It was really a captivating experience.

I got quite a few RPG just recently during the sale.
I got the Kings Bounty complete series, oblvion GOTY, there was dragon age but I am boycotting that, deathspank, monkey island, titan quest, just to name a few.
I prefer JRPG genre like Final Fantasy, but those truly are pretty rare these days on PC. -

The poor eyefinity support, this game is 10x better in eyefinity and I purchased it only because it was on the officially supported games list.
Only to get about 3 hours into the game and wonder why things were so plain, almost every tree and bush and other environmental decoration was gone because it was not rendered in eyefinity, also there are horrible pop-up issues where a giant tree just pops in and out of your vision based on how far away it is from the center of your screen when you look around.
Totally destroys the immersion of this great game.
I made a youtube video clearly demonstrating the problem. I ran through the forest on a single screen resolution, recorded it.
Then did the same run again in eyefinity and then edited the video to show the two side by side, all the grass, bushes, flowers, etc were gone on eyefinity making the lush forest look like a barren plane.
I had that video up for 2 days and magically got a copyright claim from one of bioware's dogs and had to take it down.
Any post about the issue is ignored or deleted on the forums, and they have not even acknowledged it or said they will fix it despite the fact they themselves submitted the game as eyefinity certified.
I dont like how they just dropped support for this game and are already working on the next one before its fixed and I dont like how they released so much DLC so fast because it makes me just know they had that content ready @ release but choose to hold out on it so they could charge for it. -

Its a great test of personal character to see if you can hold your cool and patience on the harder levels. However hold out and when you beat it the sense of accomplishment is just so great.
Im currently in the 5th world working on the hidden character warp zone "the kid" and damn its hard.
