    Hi,
I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 3680, and am looking for a good game to play. Now I've been playing rpg games for the sega genesis. I'd like to know if there are any good rpg games (that I can play with this laptop of course) out there that anyone can recommend.
Thanks very much for the help

what are your laptop specs? that would give an indication to what games you could play.

Titan quest and NWN2 come to mind.

Sorry, the laptop is as follows:
    Intel Celeron M procesor 440
    1.86 GHz, 533 MHz FSB,
    512 MB ram
    Intel Grapics MNedia Accelerator 950

probably not the most impressive specs, but good for a 370.00 laptop.

I thought about Oblivion. I've played Elder Scrolls: Morowind and I found it quite boring- too much running around, very little rewards for progressing the 'story'.
Do you think oblivion will run?
So far I've only tried one game for it, and that was Thief 3, which worked, though it lagged just a tad and I had to turn it down to 640x480 resolution.

SNES emulators+ roms = fun for your specs... With that you can barely play anything high quality good. Plus the SNES was a great system with rpgs.

Well I mentioned the genesis games because I wouldn't mind playing a retro-like game on my laptop. Instead of using an emulator to play genesis games, I was wondering if anyone knows of any good rpgs made for the pc (they don't have to be so graphically intense as most modern retail games).

i agree. but it isn't an rpg. i still play it every weekend with my mates.

Diablo 2 would work. but it is a bit old now.

Although not an rpg, age of empires does look good. I think I will look into it more and possibly get it.

To OP, you're definitely looking at old school games with that one. But there are some not-yet mentioned classic RPGs that will work that you MUST play, if you haven't already - these are all isometric perspective (like Diablo) RPGs (not many 1st person RPGs are gonna work well w/ your specs):

    - Baldur's Gate II & Throne of Bhaal expansion (still probably my fave RPG of alltime, how sick is that!)
    - Fallout 1 & 2
    - Icewind Dale II
    - Neverwinter Nights (dunno if your specs can handle it at low settings?)

And you may-or-may not be able to run this 3rd person RPG at low specs:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Recommended games for the GMA 950:
    Solitaire
    Hearts
    Snake

    :D Sorry, couldn't help it :p

In all seriousness, the games mentioned so far should all run fine even on the lowly GMA 950, except for KOTOR, I doubt that would run well if at all...

You CAN play Max Payne 1 and 2, as well Call of Duty, the original not 2. The Movies and Sims 2 will play fine as well if you like those types of games. Half Life 1 will run fine, not sure about 2, you could give it a try. The GMA 950 isn't that bad, and I know these games will run because my sister has that laptop, (Walmart, right) and she plays all the games I mentioned fine on hers.

DIABLO 1 and II and DIABLO LOD! Awsome games.

Don't be so hard on Morrowind it's actually a great game but it takes time to "learn to play it." It's not like other RPG's.

Whilst on this subject, I am after an adventure game in the style of Lord Of The Rings Online/WoW etc but ofline only. I have Oblivion already but something in that style but with more linear story progression. I spent a while in GAME last night and came away empty handed as I couldnt find anything like that.

I used to play a bunch of adventure games. The most recent one I played was Fable. So you can give that one a try first or tell me if you're looking for anything older.

I had forgotten about Fable. I played that and really enjoyed it on the old Xbox. Is it available on the PC?
I wish someone would make an adventure game with the graphics of Oblivion but following the Lord Of The Rings story. That Lord Of The Rings online game looks to have the graphics and scale except I dont think it follows the story its not single player and its £10 a month for the pleasure of playing (I dont believe in subscriptions to play games, I paid £30 for it and you want more cash?!)!!

Yeah you can get Fable for PC. It should be pretty cheap nowadays too though you might have to spend a little time searching for it. And if you want a game like Oblivion but with a different story and battle system you can check out Two Worlds. I believe it's either recently been released or is getting released within a month.

Red Alert 2. Diablo 2. Neverwinter Nights. Titan Quest. So many games from around 5 years ago. I'd personally take the older CnC games over CnC3. Diablo 2 will probably get you addicted for hours. It happened to me before... My mom caught me waking up at 1 am in the morning to play D2 on weekdays. They took my PC out from my room at that time and it's been like that even since I got my laptop. :(

I don't know if you like this, but The Sims can also be addicting. It's still played by many of my friends who have small laptops, which obviously don't have GPUs for playing anything new. Good graphics doesn't always mean more fun.

I think Neverwinter Nights would be my choice. But Ive played it before and the whole time I remember just wishing I could be playing it alongside other players, online. It would make a good multiplayer game.

Are you sure bioshock will work? It looks pretty graphic intensive.
