Ok, this thread may have been posted in the wrong section of the forums and perhaps the wrong web site, but I seek the expert knowledge of this tech savvy community. The GP2X is a gaming device created by a company (Gamepark Holdings) of South Korea. It is an open source portable that runs on Linux. This thing was made for emulators, but it can do so much more. My question is if the GP2X is worth the money? Try not to compare the PSP to the GP2X, each have their strengths and weaknesses. Please share your advice after viewing the links below.

Novus,
I have the GP32. Baught it a long time ago when it was popular. It was fun when I first got it, but soon became more of a novelty.
I would either buy a PDA, DS, PSP or a PMP depending on what you are specifically looking for.
The main thing that would attract me to the GP2X is if I wanted a handheld that I could easily write my own programs for, like if you have some programming knowledge and want to put it to the test. The GP series recieves a decent amount of support for that type of thing.
Another thing you may want to do is look for community sites that host alot of the homebrew applications, games, emulators for it. Just look around and see if it is what you like -
Well, I have no idea how to write any kind of program beyond a few basic HTML tags. I was hoping the GP2X would help in that department by using the device instead of my computer. The PSP has many games I would like to play, but is it capable of emulating, say, the NES and Genesis? I hear about people bricking their handheld so I'm not sure if the PSP is a good choice or not.

The GP2X I have to say has to be a companion to a current gen portable gaming device unless you are a hardcore old school game player. Unfortnately I am not one but the PSP or even the DS is a good way to emulate games from the past. There are modification forums for the psp and ds if you desire so.

whats the price tag on that?
its really hard to recommend that when you could just get a psp.
i know they are different, but if you want to run NES / Genesis games on a handled, the psp can supply... -
The Value Pack is $189.99 and it consists of four games, console pouch, and a few other accessories including four batteries. Here is a link.

that thing has no appeal to me...
thats all i can say. -
for emulation you can do that with a psp, ds, or many pda's.
when you say you are using it instead of a computer do you mean for word documents or anything? if so I would go PDA
if mainly for emulation and perhaps videos and music I would go for a ds or psp, it is relatively easy to find information on modifying them enough to do all of that and they have better new games
