A few weeks ago MS announced it was giving it's GFWL Marketplace a facelift. Well, all they did was paint it black and that's it, it's still a terrible interface and a pretty "weak" store...
Except...
For the past few weeks they've had several specials on games for under $1: Age of Empires 3 (entire set), Deus Ex, and Shadowrun.
I will admit I am now checking their website every few days and will continue to be their "cheap" customer if they're willing to keep giving away the store.

Shadowrun ugh... one of the worst games I ever paid for. I remember paying full price for it and after a few days of trying to give it a chance only to realize or completely terrible it is.
Had so much potential but the way they did the game none of it was unleashed. -
Since new GFWL titles are tied to your account and can't be resold I think that we should be able to download games using the retail cd-key and the GFWL client. Basically I want it to be like steam.
-
Coming back into PC gaming at such a strange time for the market my only opinion on the whole situation is, Steam is the best client out there. They need to improve and they are slowly. When I messed around with black light tango down I only got more upset because you needed a Windows Live account ontop of your steam account. If pc should take any page out of console gaming is ONE ACCOUNT, across the board, and steam gives that to you.
I don't want to remember 5 serperate accounts for gamespy and GFWL and Steam, just one, one place to buy, one place for friends, one place thats all. That said steam is far from perfect. I managed to move my steam file to an empty hard drive in my RAID, but they should have an option to install games to more then one file location. I understand the pros in doing this but the option would be nice.
The second thing is they need to include a cross game voice chat, It shouldn't matter which games im in or my friend I should be able to shift tab and open up a voice chat with a buddy. Alot of you will be like oh just get vent which I already do, but it would make more sense if steam brought it into the interface, chatrooms the whole thing, and it would keep everything simple. If theres is something like this on steam and someone please help me set it up -
I agree with all the shortcomings, but if they end up putting their entire library for 99 cents, I will own their entire library. Today Viva Pinata is the deal.

You know how steam has a daily sales thread, I think we should do the same for games for windows!
-
Viva Pinata is 8GB download? Sheesh. Bought it though, should be good for my boys to watch.
-
At this rate, I'll be buying that new hard drive real quickly. I've bought this and AOE3 when it was on sale for 10 cents, both off of a giftcard that had 1.89 cents on it. I doubt I'll ever really play either, but eh, why not?

GFWL is improving for sure, and having steam-like deals like this will bring people in. However, their crappy DRM practices and lack of integrated features like Steam will do them in if they don't improve the experience overall. MS has a perfect opportunity to turn GFWL into an entire Xbox-like overlay, maybe like Media Center even, turning Windows into a true gaming hub. Of course, they'd need to stop canceling half of the Xbox ports for that (I'm looking at you, Fable II)

Today's 99ยข special is Black Light: Tango Down
Must Buy at that price IMO. -
I'd like the CD keys that came with MS Studio games like Halo and Gear of War to register on GFWL too.
-
Game looks fun. Just bought it.
-
NOOOOO don't buy Black light Tango Down!!!! I bought it awhile ago on steam, it is not a very good game. The interface is horribly design and the gameplay is very generic. Since this was a sale you will probably find servers to play on but after a week or so its pretty much dead empty.
-
I bought it and found it ran a bit "clunky" on my computer, and the GFWL interface was a huge hassle in the game, I'm glad I only paid 1.05 for it.
-
After playing a couple matches I was like meh. Well at least i just paid 1 buck
-
Today's game is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Game looks interesting. -
Man got a refund for black light tango down on steam, there is absolutely no one online on its servers for pc, waste of a buck, stalker now thats worth it, I didnt think it was a game for windows though, happier with my steam version.
-
-
Thats strange, im glad you found people to play with because man if there were people playing I would have kept it. They had the right idea with multiplayer only, for me the 3 days I had it I only got into one game successfully and it was full of lag and booted me.
-
-
Aww, are their $0.99 deals over with now?
-
Maybe they have the weekend off. I ain't giving up until I have Gears of War and Halo 2 for 99 cents each.
-
They are having a sale for the best games of 2010 from their service. To me there seem to be not much good, but take a look see for yourself:
Best of 2010 - Games For Windows
Also, Where is Waldo is on sale for $3.75! lol...

If you have kids it might be worth it.
