Hey guys, what are some fun games that can be played on the power saving setting of my laptop? Games that don't need a lot of power to be played. I'm flying on sunday so I need something to play, but be able to play for a long time. Pretty much any game type is good

solitaire.
-
I actually didn't consider that
-
Go for the classics
Like Zuma or something
-
Flight Simulator, fly the same route you're on. Like remote controlling the whole plane
-
-
I'd only get like 30 mins about of that on battery power
-
This might have nothing to do with the topic, but my last 3 flights had a power-socket in-front of my seat (economy).
-
Yes, alot of airplanes nowadays have a power outlet near the seats, however they are only up to 75 watts, AFAIK.
-
i would play palnts vs zombie if i had to play a game, but normally i just take my pills and wake up 12 hours later in another part of the world
-
You can always play any of the diablo games on single player.
-
Netbook/CULV + 1997-2001 era CRPGs (anything by Black Isle) = the cure for boredom on long flights!
I played Fallout on my old eeePC last flight from ATL to SFO. -
If you like puzzle games, world of goo might be good for you. Other than that, good old blizzard games like diablo 1 and 2 and starcraft.
-
Altitude is a pretty fun game, and I don't even think it takes 3D processing to run so it should be easy on the battery power. It's kinda cool cuz you can play skirmishes either online against others, or offline with yourself and bots and either game mode you can level up and unlock new planes/weapons and such. Plus, it's rather plane oriented
Free 3 hour demo: Windows, Mac, Linux, Steam

This game is a ton of fun to play, small download, runs on just about any system, Windows/Mac users can play on the same servers, perfect for quick 10-20 minute spurts if you're busy.

I don't know that a game that requires internet connection would be relevant for games on a plane!
Starcraft, Civilization 2, Trackmania, Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies... -
Crysis Warhead on enthusiast? maybe not.... what about those old Monkey Island games?
-
Also, quite a few airlines are offering internet on their some of their planes now days. Not sure if it is suitable for gaming, but it is available. -
-
Shatter, Torchlight, Trine, Eufloria, Osmos, Nation Red, and Lumines come to mind if you want some light games.
If you are confused about some of the games, just look them up on Steam. They are mostly indie games, but they are fun. -
Starcraft, emu games, super mario crossover, world of goo, anything goldsource (half life 1 and mods), geometry wars, flash games like tower defenses.
-
-
A lot of domestic US carriers are adding it to their planes, some of them have plans to have their entire fleat outfitted within the next 5 years. As far as cost goes, I think most of them charge by the the length of flight. From the little feedback I have had from those that have used it, it actually is pretty decent, but no idea about the ping performance needed for gaming.

The guy sitting behind me kept calling my bluffs. -
I usually end up watching movies/cartoons with my 7-year old...but after he and the 2-year old fall asleep (I wish he would watch movies, I would gladly give up my half of the Y-adapter), if I play something, it's usually turn-based...I don't find the cramped quarters and possible turbulence conducive to playing fast-paced games that require some amount of precision...
So, I second the RPGs mentioned or a turn-based game like Heroes of Might and Magic (pick your flavor) or Fantasy Wars or Galactic Civilization 2 or Civilization (pick your flavor)...and I'm not sure if the person mentioning Monkey Island was kidding or not, but I think those are actually ideal...the puzzles are more fun than frustrating and there's some laugh-out-loud moments...and TellTale is updating them and re-releasing them...or you can play Sam and Max... -
bejeweled?
-
Strategy games are your best bet. Go for the old red alerts, starcraft, even warcraft III. Other then that, movies, and solitaire indeed.

Silent Storm SILENT STORM - JoWooD Productions
I would probably be also entertained by original UFO (X-Com: ufo defense).
This thread actually reminded once again that I should install dosbox on my keychain usb stick and have some classic games there. -
-
age of empires 2
-
MahmoudDewy Gaming Laptops Master Race!
GTA 2, Counter Strike 2D, or maybe pocket tanks .... I never get bored playing pocket tanks
-
Plants vs Zombies for sure, maybe Super Mario World? Love that game, and the world is huge!
-
Plants vs. Zombies is probably a very good choice. Civilization III is one of my favorite plane games - it isn't the lowest-powered from a CPU perspective, but it's very low in GPU demands and pretty low in CPU demands if you play non-supersized maps. Civilization IV hits the GPU, so it's not as good for battery gaming.
Controls are also important. Age of Empires II will be easy on the battery, but who wants to play an RTS with a touchpad? That's why I prefer TBS for strategy on battery (unless perhaps it's battery-with-a-mouse). For that reason, I like racing games on battery, with all keyboard controls. But if you're gunning for long battery life, they aren't a good option. For the one or two hour flights I usually take, they work pretty well.
Flight Sim, I've though of doing, but it is hard on battery life, and I never got used to non-joystick controls on it. Sim Copter would be my first choice for an in-air flying game (be sure to underclock your CPU as much as possible first to avoid a BSOD from too fast of a CPU).

Did anyone mention minesweeper?
-
lol seriously.. if u have a laptop like mine with about 60-70W power , u can easily play any 3d game on a plane..
-
I played Fifa 09 on my way back from Cancun a few weeks ago along with KOTOR. I had a 9 cell battery and it was only a 2 and a half hour flight
-
Nethack! Very very low cpu requirement! Random dungeons, very, very challenging. make sure you also download a few help files to read along with you on your cellphone..
Btw I think there's a cellphone version of nethack ?! -
Half Life one?
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
If I play games on a plane, it's almost always SNES emulation - very low-power and lots of fun. However, there's never quite enough room, even for a 14", so I don't do it much. You also need to be careful about your screen - if your PC's in the wrong position and the guy in front of you decides to recline, it can get dicey.
