Same here lol! But my parents somehow didn't mind much :D. My dad even printed me a walkthrough. And when I was 12 or 13, I received Mafia as a gift. That game was very, very hard back then.

Get him the first Mafia. Police there are freaking animals. He will have to obey traffic laws, otherwise it's gonna end badly for him. Unless
he kills the cop who spotted him.

Meh I played Wolfenstein 3D when I was 8, then proceeded to Doom and Doom II with a friend at 10. Last I checked I haven't committed any violent crimes. Not that I'd recommend thos game to little kids of course, but "violent video games" don't make people violent. Oh and aside from not liking the gore, parents didn't care.

Actually that reminds me, does Commander Keen have any gore? That was the very first shooter I ever played at 6. I don't remember any gore or even blood, but my memory is fuzzy.

I'm sure it could be a factor. Not as big of a factor as "Dad, who I trust, gave me a game about going on a killing spree, while smiling a rare smile from face to face and hoping I will enjoy it a lot". But still.

And Doom is more of a fantasy horror game. Imps, literally going through hell, shotgun to cybertronic spider demon brain, and so on. It's not a game where you're walking through a town, and then do extremely illegal things for no reason. Or if you follow story mode, try to immerse yourself in personalities that are made up from a rotating reel of the worst sociopathic moments of a bootleg Sopranos cast.

Agreed.. Wolf and Doom are far away from GTA. It's more about the context. Notice I didn't lump CoD in there. Assassin's creed is a tricky one though that's probably OK
I tend to think more about the mindset and reasons. If you're a good parent you're making sure to be on top of dialog about just being a good person.

I hope this was sarcasm. I played AWAU and I have to say it's far from being PG. I know, it has fairy tale characters, but princesses working as strippers/hookers, drug abuse, faul language - that's pretty far from a valid recommendation for small kids.
Great game though. Definitely looking forward for the second part.

The Walking Dead is not suitable for kids either. Definitely not. Regardless of comic book art style!

When I was their age, around 12, I got a GBA for Christmas and was playing the likes of Spongebob, Simpsons Road Rage, Pokémon and Sonic. How times are changing! It wasn't until I was around 14 when I got an Xbox (the original one) when I started playing games with more 'mature' themes.

didn't the OP say the bros were 10and 12, or did he/she say 4 and 5. Unless these boys don't have a tv to watch then they probably seen much worse. If they watch cartoons like, South Park, Naruto and other anime cartoon violence is ridiculous. I pointed out those type of games cause they are simple point and click. I also said check out the other Tell Tales games. Obviously I wouldn't leave it up to the little guys to choose games for themselves. If those games are to harsh stick with racing games or pong.

If the likes of The Walking Dead, Game Of Thrones and The Wolf Among Us do not faze 10-12 year olds then I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

But I appreciate the suggestions nonetheless :)

:D ..the Telltale games are a bit curious when you play them, though.

"Oi, look at me, I'm a poor, hobbled and oppressed SERIAL MURDERER with a shady past I'm a bit ashamed/righteous about. But I like kittens and children trust me, so it's all right, and I never will CUT THE HEAD OFF my brother or anything UNLESS I REALLY HAVE TO. In which case the sad music will start to play, so it's all right. And now I have to make a SOUL CRUSHING CHOICE between saving the hot chick or her destined to be boyfriend, because the game will force the situation to conspire against the character again and SADNESS AND EMOTIONAL JUMBLE OVERDRIVE!!!! GUILT GUILT GUILT and that's what is flashing on the billboard at the diner as you drive off into nothingness alone in the only serviceable car left in the world, OMG KILL ME NOW EVERYTHING IS SO HORRIBLE but we'll forgive ourselves and live on".

I mean, it's probably not bad writing per se. But I'm getting the distinct impression that whoever wrote the script is going through a large office budget's worth of post-it notes every week during the writing process.

My kids stick with Lego games, Rayman, Mario, Minecraft, and Peggle (OK, they do have Garry's Mod and Portal and Sim City 2000). We did finish both Rayman games (Legends and Origins) together (me and my two boys), and that was a lot of fun. Wish there were more like it. We had a blast playing together.

If they are die-hard minecraft fans, then they may not even play anything else.

LOL/ DOTA2 are great games to ruin their life.

Personally, I would find those with co-op like torchlight or D3. 2d platform like The Binding of Isaac, causal FPS like TF2. Racing game are great also, though probably need to find older release.

RTS/co-op is possible for that age, AOE3, RA series. SC1, WC2-3

Avoid Heavy RPG, Story-telling, survival game~( this war of mine, og og og...)
