It'll play anything you want smoothly, as long as you find the proper graphics settings.

I got a pretty decent frame rate (10-20FPS) on medium setting (AA off)

How an earth is that a 'pretty decent frame rate'?? That range would produce crappy, jumpy and choppy games....it's not like we're talking about the classic 'whats acceptable to you isn't acceptable to me' issue regarding people who don't care once its smooth and people who want 60+.... 10fps would be totally unacceptable and actually unusable to anybody...

Well excuse me. We are talking about the Go7400 here. I consider 15FPS for a game such as oblivion on a Go7400 as pretty decent. And yes 15 FPS is playable. Anything less than 10FPS is not. Older games would get 40+FPS. People who are looking for 60+FPS on newer games would not be stupid enough to buy an entry level gfx card as the Go7400. That's why NVIDIA has got the Go7900 or the Go8xxx series. Not everybody has an ATI X1950 like you...

That depends on the manufacturer. But usually it is 256MB dedicated + 256MB shared from system memory (turbo cache) I do not recommend running newer games on the Go7400. It is limited by the 64bit bus (others have 128bit) Get at least the Go7600 or the X1600 to have a better gaming experience

Obviously you didn't notice, but I have a Go7400 also. I get 60fps easily in Quake IV on medium settings, for example. The way you're talking here, you make it out like it's only possible to get 10-15fps with the Go7400....which is totally misleading and false. It's easily possible to get high FPS in new games with Go7400, check out my thread if you don't think so, I play all my games at 30-60fps on my Go7400. Oblivion can easily run at 30fps on a Go7400 too, or double that if you run at low settings.

15FPS is not playable, apart from maybe in RTS games which would still be jumpy as heck. Are you telling me that you play games at 15fps and are totally happy with all the choppiness, jumpiness and total lack of fluidity? I think to be honest you're getting confused here as to how to measure fps.

And it is usually 128+128, not 256+256. Such a configuration exists but the 128 + 128 is much more common...it's not really limited by the 64-bit bus either by the way, it doesn't help but it's still as good a performer as the equivilent X1400, which has a 128-bit bus.

I don't know what settings or resolution or drivers you use, but the Go7400 is definitely not a gamer's choice. Try running the 3D Mark benchmark and see if your Go7400 can pump 60+FPS...Also your Go7400 can't outperform the ATI X1600 which averages 20-30FPS in oblivion. I wouldn't mind some tips to "optimise" my Go7400 so that i also can squeeze 30+FPS in oblivion. Oh the resolutions i use are 1024x768 or 1280x1024

I did notice that you had the Go7400 in your notebook. I just didn't know you would use it to game when you have a desktop beast.

See that's your problem right there Bender - you talk as if you are running games on a console or the like where settings aren't variable. Well, they are. Obviously I wasn't claiming a Go7400 outperforms an X1600 or anything of the sort. You say, try getting 60fps + in 3d Mark. Well, you're right, it can't. But neither can my X1950Pro, by a long shot, but I can still run all my games maxed out.

Anyway, the point being, I get 60fps because I run games in 1024x768, with options on medium. You say an X1600 averages 30fps in Oblivion, but that's a total out of the blue statement. On what? High settings? Low settings? What resolution? I'm not asking genuine questions, by the way, just making a point. If you ran Oblivion maxed out on an X1600 Mobility, you'd probably get 10fps, if you ran at lowest, probably about 80fps. Yet you don't see people going around saying 'Oblivion averages 10fps on X1600', or the other way around . It's all applicable to your setup and what settings you use, and people take that into account, not just a simple statement of 'I average x fps'...

So to summarise, I am a gamer, and yes I own a Go7400 that I use to play games regularly. In my opinion, it's an excellent choice for a 'Gamer' on a very tight budget. If we could all afford it, sure, we'd all have 7950 equipped laptops, but we can't, and we have to make do with what we can. In this regard, I am very happy with my Go7400 and find that it is a good performer, when you are aware of its limits, and have no problem hitting 30-60fps whilst still keeping far, far above low settings.

It gets quite hot. I'm sure this varies with different brands and designs but mine personally hits about 50-62 when idle, and up to 70's when under load. Not so hot as to become dangerous, but you might want to think about a cooling pad too....I've had Company of Heroes lock up on me after about 2.5 hours play without cooling pad, but it's fine with the cooling pad, a basic cheap Akasa one.

I have the dell xps m1210 with the GO 7400.

I played CS:SOURCE and repeatedly get 70 frames per second with all high settings and Anti Aliasing off.

I get the same with half life 2.

    I got a consistent 65-75 fps on dust_2.

The smaller the laptop the harder to keep cool.
I recommend going with Dell Inspiron E1505 (or 6400). It keeps its cool, has an decent battery life. Since u were lopking at the Dell Xps M1219 I'm guessing ur willing to spend alot. So upgrade to 2gig of ram, 100gb 7200 rpm hd, Ati X1400, 9 cell battery, Dell Draft N Wireless, and get a 400$ coupon off this site. Its a 15.4 inch...the only disadvantage is weight, and non integrated webcam.

You could always go with the Acer ASPIRE 5670. Thats good.

Pretty much any PSone game, I play all my old PS games on my Lappy with emulators, try NGEMU.com for some emulators, I get about 50FPS on FFX for the PS2 though its a struggle.

No idea unfortunately, hopefully someone else here has tried Vista on their laptop. I can't see it being any problem though whatsoever, any remotely semi-decent hardware has no problems running Vista Premium.

As for Guild Wars, it should work at high settings without any problems, my friend plays it on an Fx5200 (shudder) at high-ish settings, so by that standard the Go7400 should run it flawlessly.

Supreme Commander would be somewhat more demanding although it'd definately work...

It won't have any problem with Vista at all; even the Intel GMA950 runs Vista fine.
