I already knew my Studio 15 wouldn't be the top gaming rig, but I still want to put a few games on it for when my Xbox isn't around. I was wondering what games were playable on med-high settings with the following specs:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600 (2,40GHz/1066MHz FSB/3 Mo cache)
    2x2GB 800mhz SDRAM
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 on a 1280x800 screen
    Vista Home Premium

I'm also open on linux games, if needed

    On the list:
    -Left for dead

Though old and not the most graphics appealing Farcry is worth it. Cheap and amazingly entertaining.

GTA III & Vice City would prolly work.....SA might too.

A good place to check would be-- Can You Run It?

They've got a database of pretty much every game you could think of and while it's not an exact indicator, it should give you at least a rough idea of what you could play

Every games are playable on this set up...granted some won't run great, but there's shouldn't be any unplayable games.

Yeah, but I'm looking for modern stuff to play when there is no Xbox. Left 4 dead is said to run at top settings. I've also been missing out on RTS games since Caesar III. I'm open to all suggestions in this category.

I already have GTA, Call of Duty and Battlefield on my Xbox

Caesar III - wow, that's like ten years!

RTS games recommended in no particular order:

    Caesar IV
    Rise of Nations
Civilization IV (turn based, but still good)
    Sins of a Solar Empire
Command and Conquer Generals + Zero Hour (or just get C&C The First Decade)
    Command and Conquer 3
Command and Conquer Red Alert 3
    Age of Empires III
    Warcraft III
World in Conflict (might struggle a bit since it's graphically intensive)

Pick up the Orange Box, and Counter Strike (1.6 for competition, Source if you're new). They're games that no PC gamer should be without.

Age of Empires 3 ran amazingly well on a geforce mx 420 I had in an old p4 desktop a few years back. Mind you all settings were set quite low.

Just a shame AOE3 didn't live up to the others.

On your setup, I think F.E.A.R. should work fine, as well as Extraction Point. Perseus Mandate would run a bit slower, but I don't recommend getting that expansion because it's not as good as the original. Battlefield 2 should run great, and Battlefield on the Xbox is different too. Just don't get anything like Crysis.
