Sods law that all the games i want ; far cry 3, stalker 2 , crysis 3, borderlands 2 etc are all the games i wanna play! Ive seen the estimated specs for each of the games and im wondering if i should have waited before ordering my laptop (specs below) as i wanna be able to play them all on ultra :/ not sure if its capable or not??

Secondly can anyone recommened any good pc games? I really want age of empires 3 and im wondering if its worth starting mass effect finishing it buying #2 then #3!? Ive completed elder scrolls and all the fallouts and im not to sure on skyrim there doesnt seem to be many fps/ rpg openworld games :( i like a good rpg but one where im in control rather than feel to tied in and scripted :/ any stratagy/fps/sim/rpg games anyone would recommened? Not really liking the sound of diablo 3 looks to 'samey' and im not one for completing a game then replaying on a different difficulty :/ whats everyone elses veiws on games etc any reccomendations?

Your laptop will handle those games fine, and future games for a long time.

You need to play the mass effects in order, that is a given, and it is a VERY good series, I would play through those first. The multiplayer on 3 is very good as well.

Skyrim is an amazing game if you have not played it yet, I think everyone loves it :D

After 150 hours of Diablo 3, I would not reccomend it for $60 but you may or may not like it, I am happy with it though.

Is mass effect 'samey' and its not open world is it? Yeah i wont get sucked into the hype of diablo 3 ud think with all the time they had to develop a game itd be bigger and more free roaming! I dont wanna play wow but something like it wud be good :/ il try the mass effects and skyrim! So no more open world rpg's until stalker 2, far cry 3 or borderlands 2 then?

Dude, there are tons of great games to play now...You're wasting time on these boards...Get on Steam and download some games pronto...You're GPU is future proof...It's rumored that the PS4 will run off the AMD chipset, so that means that your GPU should be able to handle games at least on mid settings for the next 5-7 years.

    Diablo 3 is awesome
    Max Payne 3
    Capcom X Tekken
    Ridge Racer Unbounded
    Deus Ex
    Alan Wake
    Batman Arkham City
etc... are all must haves right now.

Im waiting to recieve my laptop :( i ordered it on friday so still waiting! When i get it il have to start downloading games asap :D and also patches for drivers/cpu/gpu? Etc! Been googling games but just havent seen anything that looks epic! I love rpgs but love fps open world games to but just not many about!

Really? The Ps4 off of the chipset of the processor?? Its the hd4000 or something isnt it? That isnt powerful enough on its own to play games like maxpayne 3 though is it? Or is it if you lower all settings? Guess thats where il be relying alot on the 7970M to see me through the next 4/5 years! Which is when il go
From laptop to desktop i guess

Yep I approve of the above list ;)

Max Payne, just finished, amazing but not terribly long

Alan Wake...what can I say about Alan Wake, other than probably one of the best games of all time.

Of course Skyrim for the open world goodness and a TON of gameplay (with more being released daily thanks to the world builder kit)

Diablo 3 of course (Starcraft II as well)

Just bought the gods & kings expansion back for Civilization 5 so that's taking up all my time currently.

I have so many in my game queue right now, I don't even know where to start.

But I agree with what everyone is saying, your laptop will definitely be able to play the above and much more to come.

Wonder the requirement of crycis3, will it be more eager than metro 2033? I can't play the metro smoothly in ultra high settings though the average fps is a fairly 42, it's quite unstable.
btw, you can try company of heros 2 coming next year, it seems awsome! :)

Sweet :) what fps do u think my laptop will achieve in mp bf3 and skyrim? Ive heard u need to be hitting 50+ fps for a decent go of it!? Whats alan wake all about then? I wanna get skyrim (i started it on ps3 but was abit lame on the console) and age of empires 3! I well want far cry 3, crysis 3 and stalker 2 just hoping my system will nail them!! Ive heard rumors that crysis 3s requirements wont be a huge difference on what they are now i think the engine will stay the same?

I didn't mean I need 50fps to make it feel good, but if the fps changes too fast you will feel the same way as having a low fps (say, suddenly from 100 to 30, though never too low but will still make you uncomfortable)
As to Battlefield 3, here is my fps plotting in ultra settings, 900p though

    Hope it will help

You should be able to achieve 60fps most of the time on max as i can on my 7850 and the 7970m is a bit better, so you'll be fine. Honestly anything over 30 looks good and smooth.

He's talking about the 7970m chipset. It's rumoured that both Microsoft and Sony have given AMD the responsibility to design the chip for the next-gen of consoles. And given the 7970M's performance, small size and ability to stay cool, it is a prime contender for that spot.. It's all rumours though, keep that in mind.

Battlefield 3 will run fine, even in multiplayer, with all those settings maxed out and if you do a small overclock to the 7970m. I just finished recording a video of Operation Swordbreaker, one of the most demanding levels on the BF3 Campaign, and I was getting an fps ranging from 40-50, with a couple of drops to 35fps. Without recording/fraps running I should easily gain 10-20fps, so you're looking at 50-60fps with Vsync on. That's spectacular for a laptop!

Skyrim looks 10 times better (not exaggerating lol) on the PC. And with all those graphical mods out there, it looks absolutely stunning! I get about 40-50fps with everything maxed out and a lot of graphical mods running. smooth.

Haven't played Alan Wake, can't comment.. heard it's good. Age of Empires 3 runs with ease lol. Great game. Crysis 3 is running on CryEngine 3 just like Crysis 2, so I'm assuming we will achieve similar performance, give or take a few fps. Crysis 2 runs really well too... recorded a video last night and it works smoothly even with all that fraps-load.

Games to add to your list -
    • Just Cause 2
    • Anno 2070 (If you like strategy games)
    • The Assassin's Creed games (1, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations)
    • GTA 4 (with all those awesome graphical mods)

With all those mods mentioned, I think it's pretty clear why I'm a PC gamer at heart :D besides the fact that nothing beats a keyboard+mouse combo

I'll be able to play those games. So if I can you definitely will with that beast of a laptop.

And by wait what do you mean? If you mean wait for next generation of GPU's then you might as well be forever waiting. The're always releasing new stuff, you can never be at the cutting edge of new tech as it's always being replaced by even better stuff just months down the line. Unless you're mega rich and can afford to spend thousands each year lolol I envy those people!

Wonder how a 650m works on the games like bf3 or even metro (if u have tried) since a friend of mine is looking for a gaming notebook while she has very limited burget to go further. If that works well, then she saved the struggling

Alan Wake is definitely the best game I've played in a long time, probably since ME2. Just don't play it at night with all the lights off, lol. Mass Effect 1 and 2 are absolutely amazing as well, as is 99% of ME3 (and if you don't know which part sucks yet, I won't spoil it for you). I haven't played Skyrim yet, but its on my list and I've heard nothing but good things.

EDIT: Your 7970m is apparently more powerful than my 6950, so you shouldn't have to worry about not being able to play anything for the next several years.

well i love sim strat games, so i would suggest the total war series. Almost all of those games have a populated community. Starcraft 2 is fun, but i havent played it in awhile cause of my craptop, Civilization 5 just had a HUGE DLC release, Wargame European Escalation is a Cold War Era RTS, Counter Strike: Source, Team Fortress 2, Max Payne 3, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty i guess, Battlefield, Dead Rising series, Minecraft, Tribes Acsend i think is what its called. All of those game are a great amount of fun to be had.

if your looking to play games in the future, you will PILEDRIVE them all without much trouble, with the exception of a ferw because of some goofy tech things that happen

Your system will definitely be able to handle anything released around 2012-2015 at Ultra settings. I wouldn't worry there.

If you like open world games, I highly recommend the Fallout series (well, 3 and New Vegas, plus all the DLCs). It has some similarities to Skyrim (same folks produced both, I think), but it's much darker. Don't expect amazing graphics or anything, the engine is quite old, but the playability is awesome. YMMV as always :)

3.how do i find out what temperatures everything runs at

    4. how do i find out what fps im getting when im playing games, is there a downloadable program i have to get or something? is there one that works in the background whilst im playing so i can see when ive finished playing or minimize the screen and look?

    5. when i recieve my laptop basically what do i do regarding updates / drivers where do i find all these things?

    6. any other tips or heads up on things i should do when i get my laptop?

I play Metro 2033 at high settings :)

I don't own BF3 so I couldn't say from my experience but from other owners of the 650M comments, it looks like it can play it on high too.

Here benchmarks: (all games tested at MAX settings) http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/670304-nvidia-gt-650m-benchmarks.html

    1) It stops screen tearing (which occurs when FPS goes above screen refresh rate). Keep it on, always.
    2) I don't know as I have no experience with your particular laptop and it's method of switching between GPUs.
    3) GPU-Z or CPUID Hardware monitor or MSI Afterburner all have temp sensors and there are many more software programs that do too.
    4) Some games have the option to view frame rates built-in like Crysis, Portal 2 etc. and you can always use FRAPS.
    5) Let Windows Update install all the required updates. Then go to Alienware's website and download latest drivers for the laptop plus go to AMD's website to get the latest drivers for the 7970M.
    6) Enjoy it :)

    1) nice one thankyou i shall leave it on
    2) no worries but thankyou anyway
3)G-PUZ/CPUID is different from MSI Afterburner is it? im going to give overclocking the 7970M a go at some point so il have MSI Afterburner but what actually is the other 2?
    4) will fraps when used slow down the fps anyway? is there one that doesnt slow it down?
    5) thankyou!

rep on its way to you :) v.helpful

I would really ask yourself this question before you pick up Diablo 3, "Do i enjoy farming the same stuff for gear?" If you do, go nuts. If not i would really recommend staying away from Diablo 3. I feel like I wasted 60 bucks ;/

better yet, if your looking for a fun game, wait until Guild Wars 2 drops and buy that. it is a massive MMO, has no subscription fee, and looks REALLY pretty, even on low, since a lot of the game is actually concept art. i think it drops in August, but dont quote me on that one, my friend has been waiting for guild wars 2 for SEVEN YEARS. his uncle has been waiting for 13. im not really interested in it, but it does look pretty cool.

HA yeah I feel bad because I convinced a co-worker to buy this game with me so we can play it together...we're both extremely bored with it and I feel responsible for him wasting 60 bucks lol.

As for games, I recommend the following (I play the one's with stars almost every day):

    ** Skyrim
    Mass Effect 1-3
    Assassin's Creed 1-2.2
    ** NBA 2K12
    Deus Ex: Human Revolution
    The Witcher 1 & 2
Batman Arkham Asylum & Arkham City
    Civ 5

    1) The reason you get the choice is because it can reduce performance on low end GPUs. However, your 7970M is plenty enough to handle it easily.
    2) :)
    3) GPU-Z/CPUID aren't overclocking programs. They provide you details about your particular laptop and all the components inside it.
    4) Yes it will slightly. I don't know of any that won't slow it down as all screen recording programs will need some processing power to just do what they do.

Nope, the guy that owns the IP won't give up the rights, but also doesn't want to make another S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. The team has moved to other projects, such as the team that made the incredibly scary X18 lab and most of the underground segments of Shadow of Chernobyl work for 4A games now on Metro 2033 and now Metro: Last Light. The last of GSC has moved on to a free to play MMO called Survarium, Very S.T.A.L.K.E.R. like if you ask me. Another developer from GSC has moved on to another project (he also did work on Metro with 4A), and is working on a cross platform shooter with Union Studio.

    Rock, Paper, Shotgun article

For other games coming out, try the indie titles, most are looking 100X's better than regurgitated AAA refuse.

Check out Among The Sleep a survival horror where you play the part of a two year old.

    Among The Sleep website

Or some upcoming title from the studio that brought us Dear Esther, an open world title called, Everybody's Gone to The Rapture, or the sequel to Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. Sorry, most of my picks are pretty creepy. :S
