G'day Abhicool. I'm also considering a notebook with the go7400... from what I understand it's a reasonable midrange gpu, designed for thin & light applications (low power drain and low heat). As such, it should run most current titles reasonably well provided you turn down some of the detail settings.
This thread has some more info. -
you should be able to play those games and medium settings. If you plan to buy something like FEAR, you'll have to do with minimum settings I guess. Look at Chaz Man's Grpahics Comparasion Chart. It will help you out.

Dont mind what Lil Mayz said. The 7400 is an excellent card, especially the version you mentioned! It will be easily able to play the games you mentioned on Max settings as long as you donnt go crazy with the resolution(keep it at 1024*768) and FEAR on Mid-Max settings. Better to opt for Mid settings in FEAR for overall better performance in game. Even my X200M will play HL2 at med-max settings once i get more RAM.
The likes of DOOM 3 should also play at MED-MAX settings no probs as even the older 128mb dedicated 6200 achived framrates of 30-40fps in Doom at Max settings!
The only games the 7400 will struggle with, will be for the likes of Starship Troopers which is an absolute killer on GPU's!
Hope this helps.. -
It should work , you would not have any problems. It can able to take any latest games that you throw in. But again , if you dont go crazy with the resolution settings (with AA and AF) , then it would be fine. As suggested by Fishy , try to keep it at 1024x768 or 800x600

whatever you heard, the 7400go is a good card for moderate gameing. i can run oblivion on medium settings just fine and it is the most hardware intesive game i know of.

What people are telling you is good info. Be sure to check the Mobile Graphics Card chart as mentioned.

Phew! that was good response thank you!!!
well guys sorry i forgot to tell that my pc will be an HP Pav 5118 series.
And also a Xp Home(sic) , though i have the professional , i will not be getting the system drivers, as recovery is HDD based!
So how was everyones experience to HP?
Well so what about Lord of rings, as far as i rem its hardware intensive? -
I'm actually sort of curious, how does the Geforce Go 7400 compare to the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700? The reason I ask is that I'm currently selling my s360, and one of the laptops I'm thinking of replacing it with is an SZ, so I'm kind of curious what sort of performance boost I'd see between the two.

maybe this might help a little ?

Thanks, that helps a bit (how relevent is 3DMark03 though as a benchmark these days)? At least from that it sounds like there is a bit of a performance boost for the GeForce 7400 compared to the Mobility Radeon 9700, but perhaps not a dramatic one.

3DMark03 is too outdated in my opinion . . it does not even stress most newer graphics cards. It's a good benchmark to run if you want to compare your card to older cards, but more than that, better off using 05, or preferably for the newest cards, 06.

Right. I'm a bit more curious how one would say the GeForce 7400 in the SZ series and the Mobility Radeon 9700 in the S360 compare in modern terms.

The Go7400 is both newer and faster, but the MR9700 isn't far off in terms of general performance. Since the cards are several generations apart, the performance difference would depend on the game.
-
I see, thanks. I just wanted to get some sense of what sort of performance increases I'd get compared to my S360 if I moved to the SZ after selling it. So far I've found the S360 seems fairly capable at handling some games like BF2 and Half-Life 2 (at least at lower detail settings), and actually seemed to do a really good job with WoW, but it really seemed to choke completely on Oblivion, for example. Whatever new laptop I get, I think it will probably be either GeForce 7400-based or X1600-based (I'm not really looking at some of the big gaming behemoth DTR-style laptops).
-
hi well how is the game Lord of rings-middle earth, is it worth playing, and will it play on geforce 7400?

phew! thanks, i was not expecting to run max, as i know it taxes even the 6800GT on desktop addition! i used it there and it didnt allow more then medium so tht i may have to play in unplayable FPS! Thansk
