When I upgraded to vista I knew that there had been reports of games running 10-15% slower but im sure this is much worse. Back in xp I could run half life episode one at very decent resolution and all settings at high. Now I have vista, even with the resolution at its lowest and all settings low, it still runs incredibly slow, stuttering all the time, and the sound stutters continously, its unplayable.

Is there nothing I can so, surely vista wouldnt make my games run this much slower?

It's too bad you have a dv2000, because HP doesn't support Vista audio problems on the dv2000 series.

Have you upgraded your Geforce Go 7200 (I assume that's what you have) drivers? There are new Geforce Go 7 series drivers that are more compatible with Vista. Also see if you can upgrade your BIOS or motherboard to more recent one that supports Vista.

This seems like something to inquire about in the HP forums, I'm sure plenty of other people are having the same problems with their dv2000's.

well actually, I only have intergrated graphics geforce go 6150, but it was quite sufficient for windows xp to run it seamlessly.

I’m afraid it is the OS. [H]ardOCP had an article this week on the difference in frame rates between XP and Vista and it ain’t pretty.

Are you sure you are running with the same settings? Try using DirectX 7 mode for Half-Life 2 if you aren't already.
