So I just got my new computer and 4 new games, Witcher 1 and 2, Bad Company 2, and Crysis 2. Out of the 4, I can play only 2 games because I can't play Witcher 2 or Bad Company 2 without updating first.

Updating would be no problem...but I'm limited to the amount of bandwidth used per month. I'm on 3G Broadband, it's the best internet I can get in farm country. And Witcher 2 and Bad Company 2 updates are HUGE! I've used 5GB of my bandwidth just to download Witcher 2 updates and it's still not done. :(

So with the amount of surfing/gaming I do, updating at this time is not an option.

Some games I'm interested in, Batman AA, Metro 2033, Bioshock 1/2. Do these require any updates to play the game? Also is Metro 2033 good? I am hearing mixed reviews about it. I'm enjoy good SP FPS games.

I have Bioshock 1 that's not tied to Steam and I don't think I've ever had to update it. Sometimes there are patches you have to manually download and install if you're experiencing glitches or other technical errors but that didn't happen with Bioshock.

We do live in the era of "Fix the game after launch" so most multiplayer games will get multiple uploads.
For The Witcher 2 the devs added a bunch of fixes and content so thats why its kinda huge.

You could download the update at a local library and save it to a usb or something lol. I use my university's internet to download large files.

I do exactly the same thing! College internet is stupidly fast.

As for some games, most single player games rarely need to update. It's all multiplayer games that need updating since there are exploit issues, new items etc. that they need to fix.

Metro 2033 was the last FPS game I actually engaged with and thoroughly enjoyed playing, this includes HL2, Fears, CODs which all fell short imo.

Its one to play with the lights off and sound jacked up, the breathing in the gasmask certainly sets the atmosphere when outside as it steams up and you see less, problem was the time, finished it in around 10hrs which by todays standards is normal I suppose.

No college nearby, but I guess I'll steal McDonald's or Starbucks internet lol. Although I might get fat staying at McDonalds lol.

10 hours is normal for a FPS? that's pretty long, no? I finished Crysis 2 in like 5-6 hours. 5-6 hrs seems the avg game time for FPS for me. 10 hours is a lot! I'm looking for a longer SP FPS game.

I guess I'll have to grab Metro 2033 then. I hear it's good with 3D too, can't wait to play it with my 3D setup! :)

By today's standards it is long. But that is because COD and similar clones have set that 5-6 hrs is 'fine' for a single player campaing. Not more than a decade ago (2004, HL 2) the norm was 20+ hours.

Anyways, the best option for your case is to find another internet connection, be it university, the burger house or some other place ;)

Used to RPGs and open world games tbh, if it takes less then 50hrs I'm normally disappointed lol. Bearing in mind 10hrs is the time recorded by my steam on the normal setting, apparently is extremely challenging on hard as ammo is so scarce though I tend to explore everything.

Metro 2033 is one hell of a system hog you better have a excellent PC to play it in 3D.
