I'm not really a gamer at all but wanted to buy a game so I could actually use the power in my notebook. I heard alot about oblivion, fear, and half life 2 mostly. The dude at the store said half life 2 was very taxing on the card and was the better of the games, so i bought the holiday edition for 50 bucks whih includes half life 1, half life 2, half life 2 eposode 1, and counter strike source.
I just figured out from that "can you run it" site that half life 2 is not a very taxxing game.. But whatever I'll play it anyway. but...
Anyone got suggestions for games that'll give my card a workout? I want to see it in action. <_<

Oblivion with all eye-candy on, as well as max resolution possible, grass and all objects distances to max, with bloom and the highest AA you can get? That'll tax it alright
I get about 5 fps when I try that! -

I'd suggest FEAR Combat. It's a free download and it looks awesome. Very fun to play online. Be careful though, you may get addicted.

And there are plenty of free game demos out there. Far Cry is an older game but still looks beautiful. There is a demo available for it. -
Wait, fear combat is a taxxing game and I don't even have to pay for it? How sweet is that?
I hope I don't get addicted... Between 30 hour per week job and full time college I can't afford to get addicted. -
F.E.A.R.........I bought the retail version and only play the multiplayer it is very addicting
-
-
indeed fear combat is addictive...look at my avatar =D
-
Supreme Commander will stress your video and system.
grab the free demo. or buy the full game.
HL2 is not that taxing by today's standards, but it is still an excellent game and very nice graphically. -
Rainbow 6 Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter, Splinter Cell Double Agent,

u should try out company of heros. i have yet to play it (in the mail from amazon) but i hear it is a very demanding game for ur overall system. give it a buy or try the demo, but beware, the demo is like 2GB

The most taxing games on my laptop that I currently play are Splinter Cell Double agent, and Rainbow 6 vegas.
Oblivion doesn't really tax my laptop, since it plays fine at max graphics, but
R6 vegas does! (wonder how UT3 will play!) -
Umm what laptop do you have that plays oblivion fine at max settings, if you consider maybe 20fps as ok? Hell not even my desktop 8800GTX and my Core2Duo E6600 runs Oblivion fine still I get at minimum with all settings maxed and with enhancement mods a minimum of 35fps in heavily outdoor areas and up to 60 fps outside in other areas, mostly I run at 47fps riding the horse outdoors.
So tell me what kind of laptop you have that doesn't tax your laptop playing Oblivion at max settings
Now to my laptop an XPS M170 which I can play Oblivion at 1920x1200 I get an average of 20fps outside with not all settings maxed. I usually play the game at 1440x900 but I don't consider it playing fine at max settings. -

I'm not lying either. Oh, and Oblivion runs about 25fps average with maximum settings, no AA though... on my X1600 laptop, on my X1950XT desktop it runs about 50+FPS on the same settings.
Oh, and yes I've been playing R6 Vegas all day on my X1600 laptop running Vista premium.
nothing is OCd right now either. -
Oblivion is an extremly taxing game, if you have some of the nice mods it can easily tax some of the nicest systems today.
HL2 isn't very taxing but it should looks like it would be!
Supreme Commander is very demanding of the CPU, not so much the GPU though. But play on a large map, full settings with max enemys, and I have a feeling your PC will feel the strain. -
Lol, i've been itching to use this thinG!
And yeah, it's really hard balancing this all out. Work and school. I am a junior at art school. Basically, I am mediocre (in the low-middle to middle) when compared to my other classmates. I don't get as much time as they do to concentrate on getting better. =/ -
unknown that 25fps must be without HDR, can never imagine a X1600 running Oblivion maxed at 25+ fps. Of course resolution matters here, do you play at low resolutions?
-
i know a good game to "tax" ur graphics card::::::::::crysis, when it comes out in a few months
-
Go grab the C&C3 Demo, its pretty fun and runs ur GPU's temps up too.
I still like:
- Oblivion
- Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter -
Yes, i use HDR, and my rez for that game is 1024x768 with max graphics. -
What's c&C3? For some reason I'm thinking comand and conquer? The only reason I say that is because I think my friend Pepe has been raving about that game for a few days now.
-
Yeah C&C3 will tax your GPU definitely, also of course if you play at really low res then it's no problem, however if you go up to 1920x1200 well then it will tax your system, though a 7900GTX will handle the game reall well at max settings at 1920x1200 since my 7800GTX almost does that
-
Yup its all about Command and Conquer: Tiberian Wars, I have been pushing my 7800GTX @ 1920x1200 with max settings on my notebook, definitely a taxing RTS.
The demo is fun, but I feel that the AI is going to be more difficult in the retail release when they unlock the AI difficult options. I cant believe that the AI-Balanced option in Skirmish gets them to flank your base in the weakest spots. -
Supreme Commander is much more demanding then C&C3.
my 7900 GS, was about to run C&C3 full settings at 1920x1200, with no noticable lag at all. -
Medieval Total War 2 is a great game to put your system through its paces, as are the previously mentioned Oblivion and Supreme Commander. I personally find Titan Quest does more to humble my high-end PC than anything else though. It's quite a buggy game, so much could be attributable to this, but it is a bit of a resource hog nonetheless.
-
Oh I own a M170 it's a great laptop with a 7800GTX and I recently built myself a desktop rig with a Core2Duo E6600, 2GB Kingston Hyper X 800MHz and a 8800GTX. It's just amazing that you can run the games in 16AA and 16AF with no lag at all on that rig
It definitely feels that laptops is no way near desktop speeds, nor will be. I love notebooks, but when it comes to gaming nothing beats a high end desktop rig. I hope they can start make laptops which you can upgrade all parts, but I doubt it.
Still when the 8800 series reaches laptops the desktops are far away in performance, I really hope laptops catches up, since they have gone a long way since just a few years back. -
How are Oblivion, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfare, UT2003, C&C3 going to be on my laptop??
Also, what is HDR and how do you enable it? -
it is a major eye candy upgrade but u will most likely see a large performance drop depending on what computer u go.
-
What kind of games would 'tax' the 7950GTX? heh
-
Nothing can, the 7950 GTX is the best. I have it
-
Lost Planet, you're already obsolete by that game's standards lol.
-
yeah and Colin McRae Dirt you´re also obsolete with a 7950GTX unless you play in very low resolutions.
-
Wow, good job bringing back the dead man
-
Yeah that´s me
, glad someone responded
-
Try Medieval Total War 2 with a battle of around 3000 troops at night with a castle
That should give it something to think about
Make sure U use AA and Anizo
Games that will make me use my 7900 gtx?
