i've been a long time reader of gamespot when they were still using videogames.com but whoa i can't believe they fired jeff over something like this. granted i never liked the guy very much but he's been there since the beginning w/ greg![]()

Getting rid of free speech? And seriously games are starting to get real bad these days exception of Halo and BF series. But where is Atari? And Lucas arts lately they have been real quiet.
-
-
-
That's what everyone is saying, the only thing they don't want is an MMORPG out of the KoTOR series.
-
in my opinion, after greg kasavin left, gamespot would never be the same again, and now they're firing jeff for writing controversial reviews...
-
Wasn't this guy fired for writing what was considered the last straw in a long string of controversial reviews? I don't know if he does PC games so if he was apparently fired for writing an unflattering review which attracted advertising pressure it reinforces my current perception that lots of writers are on the take from publishers and are less objective than they would seem.
-
hmm interesting. haven't been on GameSpot in a while but this is pretty shocking.
-
Jason Ocampo is still their #1 editor....but Jeff fired because of pressure by Eidos to remove their advertising campaign just kills gamespots credibility. Most people like Jeff and think he is (was) #1 but I just hated the way he just spoke his mind and ripped apart games instead of straight up reviewing them, if there was a negative he focused too much on it.
edit: ROFL @ Kane and Lynch scores: Jeff - 6.0 , Users - 2.6 and falling.
nice. -

The last paragraph is especially disturbing. -

If I want a hardware guide ill go to a hardware review site
Anyhow, its not like im going to stop going to gamespot. I like the news section and the forums. I just have been disappointed with their reviews for awhile now and can't trust them anymore, expect artificial gloss in the future as editors will be too scared to speak their minds. -
Oddly enough metacritic has an average of 69 out of 100 for Kane and Lynch, perhaps Eidos chose the wrong reviewer when paying for advertising.
-
gamespot's going downhill, hardcore gamers will never trust them anymore, but the world's not made of hardcore gamers and the site will still be popular among casual alike gamers. Nowdays even ign reviews is being more objective than gamespot with the exception of giving that xbox game(jade empire)a 9.9 (apparently got paid for it!!
), having some ps2 and ps3 fans among their editorial team and not having any passion for pc gaming
,that aside i guess they're just fine
Actually i'm stunned by their courage to give assasin creed an average score, having played the game myself i totally agreed with them, the game felt unfinished and the combat was a joke.. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
That's why I rarely trust Gamespot.
Anyways that is why user reviews, like the forerunners (The Orange Box and COD4) are much better than reviews from these game sites. -
and then when it was time to review the orange box he cancelled himself by saying that HL2:episode 1 is the weak point in the series!!!
