I was just thinking to myself - there are so many users here that DON'T fancy games, or play them just as much as I do. Their happy with low-mid end systems/laptops that can deliver the maximum for their requirements of simple web-browsing, chatting, etc.
Now if only I were like that, i.e. not such a gaming addict, life would have been SO much simpler, if not the least. I wouldn't have to get the highest end laptop that would then again be outdated in no time. I'd just be happy with a mediocre laptop. Sure, I enjoy games a lot and gamers enjoy life. And rich people who can afford frequent upgrades/purchases are just fine, but the lust for gaming and your income have no co-relation. The poorest soul could be the most game savvy person. So I'd like to summarize that gaming, though my pleasure, is my curse!
This goes out to all the gamers out there.... if only there was a cure for our disease....
I ask myself sometimes, WHY can I not go on without frequent doses of games ? I've never found the answer.... I just know that we gamers will have to live on this way with our narcotic drug (games), and there's just no solution to it other than ending the gaming craze, which I believe should be harder than a chain smoker stopping smoking, since we really love our games!

i'm assuming you're a student? well, the simple answer is that you haven't found something better to replace your 'habit.'
-
Yeah, a student. And no, I haven't found anything to replace my 'addiction'.
-
im addicted too man. just cant afford the high end stuff right now. just my laptop and my xbox 360. im gona have to kick the habit soon because im going in the air force.
-
Extreme gaming can be a drug...I have thousands games that i haven't tried yet ...So now i am trying to focus on few good games (for example now i'm playing only medieval 2 and ut3) and spend other time for other things...maybe you can practice some sport to distract yourself from gaming...push your limits and see improvements in your body is more gratifying than buying any super new video card or console...
-
lol Ofcourse I'm into sports like football and cricket. But I just started this thread to see if there were other gamers out there sharing my feelings, other than the gamers who just enjoy their time gaming all day.
-
ignorance is bliss
-
DAMN GAMES, they mess up my whole life,i play all night long, go to bed at 7am wake up at 2pm...
WHAT DO I DOOO -
Clairvoyant47 don't pay the next electric bill
You shoud stop gaming in this way! -
A partial solution could be to not try to use a f'ing notebook. You could save a ton of money if you bought a desktop PC for gaming, and *then* you could buy a cheapo average-specced laptop for studying and such.
That's what I've done. Get better graphics, for less money, and easier upgrades. And of course, a far better screen, keyboard and mouse.
As for the amount of time spent on games, that's just a matter of having a ton of other things you need to do. -
I have 2 laptops, one for gaming and one for school, initially for gaming also.
I have a steady girlfriend of over 2 and a half years, I hit the gim on a regular basis, I read and cycle a lot.
I game rarely, only when a NEW COOL game is released.I can`t play anything that others have not tried,I hate being a guinee pig for gaming...
So the cure is to vary everything and find some meaning for your life. -
I love gaming but i cannot afford new games so i just read up on them instead. I get a new game e.g. COD4 every 6 months so that the online keeps me company
-
I am a gamer, but I am not addicted to games. Why, do you ask? Because I can't become addicted to games. After I beat a game (if it is single player), or at some random point within a couple of weeks(if it is multi-player) I just can't drum up the will to play. I'd rather do something else, like read, go watch a movie, eat out with friends, solder together some contraption with solar panels attached, etc. I always like to try new games, and sometimes I will go back and revisit REALLY good ones, but I know whenever I start spending time with my next gaming love, the affair will be over quickly, and I'll be the one to stop calling.
I don't know what that is, life experience? Or maybe I just don't value games enough. There are so so many REALLY amazing things to do out there [in the world, or above it]. Games can only mimic some of the more interesting scenarios people could conceivably get themselves into. Games just can't compete with real life, but they can add to it (just like any art form). It's fine to have gaming as part of your life, but remember that it can't and shouldn't become a substitute for real life, because it CAN'T. -

I've had a gaming addiction for a long time. I know there are people who can effectively balance gaming with regular stuff well, but I'm not one of those people. I found by ditching the desktop and using my laptop almost exclusively, I've basically rid myself of my long-term gaming addiction... simply because I have no choice - the X3100 isn't particularly powerful.
There's also the fact that gaming had become more of a habit rather than fun. There were exceptions, but most of the stuff I was playing, it didn't feel as entertaining as it used to be. I suppose by then I realized I needed other pursuits, so in the end it was easier to just give it up entirely. Feel a bit healthier for the effort too. -
Pretty much the easiest way to get rid of the additions is as mentioned above, get a system that can't handle them, and eventually you will give up.
-
I don't think gaming is an addiction since your body doesn't crave it... you probably just don't have anything better to do... lol. If you cant drop thousands on a gaming pc just spend $500 on a console...
I game... a lot... but it's never gotten in the way of anything else in my life like a real addiction would, lol. When I'm inside and everyones busy I just play games, not because I HAVE to but because I want to.
Honestly, if you blame games for ruining your life you're just as bad as those ******* senators with an anti-game vendetta. I tend to believe people blaming their lack of a social life on their "addiction" to games are in denial, and really just don't want to go out and be friends with people because they fear real social interaction.
In short... you can't be addicted to games... so please don't describe it as such. -
Actually, I've literally been addicted. Seriously, it sucks.
I had to drop it because it was ruining high school for me, so I quit for a year a and a half cold turkey. I picked up guitar and play it pretty regularly, and occasionally play video games but it's casual now. -
I guess my next notebook will just have an entry level card
I only play sports games (NHL, PES) and CSS anyway, plus i i only play css when i am at home...which is...2-3 months a year. But yeah, the problem is one you start up the game is hard to close it/turn it off again
And for those of you who dont know what Football Manager is...you have no idea what gaming addiction iseven the most sociable of people can be easily addicted...well of course you have got to be interested in the sport in the 1st place (soccer).
But yes, the OP should probably find something else to do... -
Finally an happy ending story
Greetings! -
I have been a gaming 'addict' for the last 25 years at least. I've gotten better, but have literally wasted thousands of dollars on games or hardware I didn't really need. Now I'm realizing with my notebook, I can game with this just as well as I could my $3000 top of the line rig. Well, might not look so great or play at high resolutions, but it gets the job done, and still have a good time.
And I'm married with a new kid too. Gaming takes my mind off things, and now with some control, is a fairly inexpensive hobby. I had more expensive ones previously, like flying, which about put me under timewise and financially.
Anyhow, yes in some respects I wish I didn't have this 'addiction' but it's a safe way to have fun, my wife knows where I'm at (not out drinking), and it is relatively inexpensive. -
You are completely wrong. Addiction is not only physical, it is also psychological. For example, a "gambling addiction" has nothing to do with chemical dependancy, it is all psychological.
Let's make this clear, no one here is blaming games for anything. You can technically develop a psychological addiction to anything, I once read on BBC news about how some people have "shopping addictions" (The medical term is Oniomania). Now this may seem crazy but it doesn't stop it from being true.
Addiction stems from a lack of self-control, nothing else. I should know, since I had a weed addiction a couple of years back, along with a couple of my friends. But don't worry, I'm over that now.
You are only addicted to something if it interferes with other aspects of your life. Most gamers balance their lives very well, so this is not a problem.
However, the fact is that "gaming addiction" does exist. Just do a google search for "News + Game Addiction". If you're too lazy then here. -
WOW and CS are some addictive phenomenons...I`ve heard of kids commiting suicide because of them or literally dying after spending too many hours in front of a computer.
I guess it all comes down to awareness and responsability. -
I enjoy gaming a lot, but it's one of the many things I enjoy in life. I also play sports a lot, hang out with friends, go to the movies, study, etc.
I also only buy a few games a year (because they're relatively expensive) so that helps too. -
Of course you can get addicted to gaming. However, you can also get addicted to alcohol, tv, ***. All of these things (including gaming) are not bad in themselves, but to those with addictive personalities, they can become addictive anyway. The only people who suggest gaming isn't addictive is because they've never become addicted to it themselves, and hence are ignorant.
EDIT: Can someone PLEASE explain why this forum is so prude that the "s-word" (rhymes with "hex", substitute the h) is autocensored? Ban swear words sure, but that? People are afraid of pleasure. -
kkeep it AWAY!!!! -
I like my addiction, since I've started working and bought my own laptop I like nothing better than using the new machine to do almost nothing else but game and watch animation. Screw a social life, been looking forward to this for the last 5 years.

^^rock on man
there is no more fun then going to a 30 hour lan and playing cod4 for 13 hours stright.............
i am addictred to games that require ages and ages to play. patrician 3, m2 total war, hearts of iron. and i always end up playing late into the night. if you want to stop gaming though, get a girlfriend. last one i had stopped me playing for most of the week except a couple of hours on sunday. -
-
Get married and you'll go back to gaming. Then you'll hope your wife has a 'headache' so you can go play. -
Just as well I'm not likely to acquire a significant other for the next few years, even more time to enjoy PC gaming freedom. Forum users with gaming partners should consider themselves lucky.
Same problem as Jeff, started a Civ4 session last night and finished around 5:30am in the morning. That game is worse than crack cocaine in its ability to hold player's attentions. -
Try sports. I play Ice Hockey and it takes my mind off things, especially if your coach makes you skate your @$$ off if you're late.
But, I still manage to play a couple hours everyday. -
-
well skip some schoolwork and go PLAY MAN, geee what a sorry excuse for a gamer you are
im joking really, anyway I'm the type of person that would do something like that and i might as well say to myself "What a sorry excuse for a human being I AM" -
RTCW took over my life for over 2 years!! Seeing that game die was the best and worse thing that ever happened to me. I paid more attention to "ownin nubs" than I did to my g/f of 4 1/2 years.
Saying that, I still wouldn't take it back for the world.
-
Anyway, this thread was started not because I'm asking for help, but simply to discuss gaming and how it affects most gamers. -
i've been addicted into gaming last year, but since i'm going overseas to study and i felt like i want to stop my addiction, my solution is to buy a laptop with an integrated graphics
, and i could only play CS 1.6 now
-
ScifiMike12 Drinking the good stuff
PC gaming screwed me over last semester. I went cold turkey and didn't play any games from November till about last week. That's pretty good in my book.
I got my HP, thinking that gaming was kinda out of the question until I reinstalled BF2 to see how well it performed. Opps.
But it's not as bad as it was several months ago. -
-
You guys need to start smoking weed...
-
I feel like I've wasted my life when I'm playing games for hours and hours. I look at the clock, its 8p.m. then I game some more, and next thing, it's 3a.m. I hate it.....
-
life is race to the top and everyones running except you
seriously, go find something productive to do. -
As soon as I saw this thread title, I was thinking about the Killswitch Engage song.
*under breath* "This is my curse!"
