Here in the States, why is it that console gaming boxes are the nice thin DVD style case. But for Windows PC games they are the big fat double DVD boxes?

I miss the days of fat manuals, extra goodies in the box, and nice reference key cards. Those days are gone, so insted of making fat boxes, use the thin ones. Take up SO much less space. And in case there is a game that offers a lot of printed material or extras, then use the fat case.

I think in Europe they use the thinner cases don't they? I've ordered games before that were only available in Europe at the time, and they came in the slim console-like DVD cases.

They do come in the slim cases unless they're something like Guild Wars, as it's packed full of manuals and maps and random stuff like that. I hte those fatter boxes though, as they seem to break almost as easily as those godforsaken brittle jewelcases!"£%

Yes, my 360 game box seems and feel more solid than my pc game box do.

Yup, PS3 cases are nice! And the user manuals too.
Generally, gaming is more fun on a console than the PC anyway.

And what does that have to do with game boxes?

But I don't agree. I prefer RTS and Combat Flight Sims which you can't play on a console. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy an occasional FPS. However given the choice between a game for my X360 or same on my PC, I'll choose the PC version. I much prefer keyboard/mouse controls.

Yeah generally everyone would agree (maybe not the hardcore, diehard fanboys) would agree that controls are much more accurate on a pc.

I'm not a pc fanboy, I live in an apartment with every console (2 other roomates, everyone has their fanboyism) and me and my friend split the price for the 360.

Those are not combat flight sims. Have you ever tried playing IL-2 or Falcon 4 Allied Force or Lock-On: Modern Air Combat or Jane's F/A-18 or Enemy Engaged Comanche Hokum?

You couldn't even attempt on a console what these titles do, and they're all several years old. Not to mention a full HOTAS setup.

Over G is junk. Ace Combat 6 is fun, but its no combat flight sim by any stretch.

What surprised me was that I expected a bit more documentation with a game like Oblivion on Xbox 360, but all it came with was a small manual and a map.

lol! Ace Combat has never been more than:

fly around, acquire target lock, shoot one of your 5000 missiles that regenerate on your wings.

It's fun though. But you can't beat PC gaming for the shooters - analogue sticks just don't compare to pointability with a mouse.
