Hey guys, i just got myself a HP Pavilion dv7-1010eo Entertainment - Athlon X2 QL-60 1.9 GHz - 17" TFT. So far everything looks great with it! Tried out to play World of Warcraft on it, and i had up to 100 FPS! But when i tried Call of duty 4, the problems came :(

Here is some details about my computer: (Its on norwegian, but i hope you understand abit of it)

When i start the game, nothing looks wrong. I watch the intro movies, so far no lag. Everything goes smooth! :) So i try to join a online server, and i play with 5 FPS per second! Everything starts to lag! I have tried out singleplayer as well, and the same problems show up. And when i start a local server, i turn up with 80 ping, and as i host i should have like 1-4 ping. can anyone help me with getting Call of Duty 4 to go smooth please? :(

    Thanks alot!

    Yes it is.

All he needs to do is turn down the graphics settings.

    Resolution - 1280x800
    HDR/Shadows/AA/AAF/Reflections ALL OFF
    Textures - Medium

The Radeon 3450 is more powerful than an 8400M GS, which I played COD4 on at 100FPS on settings just below what I just described.

The HD3450 is not a very capable graphics card. 5fps might be the best you can hope for unless you set the game to the lowest resolution and settings you can.

    COD4 System Requirements:

The 3450 is roughly equivalent to a Radeon X1600, which falls into the bottom end of capable GPUs for this game. You'll have to lower the advanced video settings considerably in order to get acceptable frame rates; start off by disabling anti-aliasing and shadows altogether, and turning everything else to maximum. Keep turning down the effects (such as texture quality and anisotropic filtering) until you get better FPS, lowering resolution if you have to. Eventually you will hit the optimum graphics settings when you experience fluid combat.

Are you a serious gamer? If so - yes, this computer will not hold up well for you.
Look for at least a 9600M GT or 3650 - preferably higher.

HDR is High Dynamic Range and defines lighting, AF (sorry for the typo in my previous post) is Anisotropic filtering smooths out textures. This and reflections should all be found in the advanced graphics settings

To elaborate on Hep's explanation of AF - anisotropic filtering eliminates blur that occurs when you are viewing 2D textures at an angle. See the attached file to see what I mean.

If you choose 32 bit vista, you only need 3 GB of RAM. If you want 64 bit, take the 4 GB.

I have the same GPU and it works fine for most games. You'll be able to max COD4 at 1280 x 800 easily.

Bring down the res and lower AA/AF. I can play this on my desktop that has a Geforce 6200 at (really) low settings and maintain a 60-70fps. Are you playing on battery power? Doesn't make much sense...The HD 3450 isn't THAT bad.

Uh yeah, wish I had an 8400M GS still around as a comparison. My original figure was for an XPS M1330 with a T7300 and an 8400M GS, 1280x800, lowest settings except for models which were on medium. FPS was taken as the average for Singleplayer "wetwork." I will just for fun try to see how many FPS I can squeeze out of a Radeon 9700 Mobility; I think the performance of these cards is probably similar enough.... though it will of course not be "proof"

Yeah, it was, but credit where credit's due man. And you gave no credit. :|

Not that I care, but for the record, the author of the Wiki article didn't make the picture himself; he used Google Earth. Why source such common information, much less a public encyclopedia?

I had an Imac with a radeon x1600 and it ran cod4 just fine. I used the 1024 resolution and turn everything to medium and got around 30-40 fps. Maybe you are running too many programs at once?

I can play CoD4 just fine on my x1400, with some settings turned down.

The HD 3450 should do just fine.

So this PC should be able to play COD4 or not? If not, do you belive that i should change the graphic card to Nvidia instead, or is there that needs to be changed?

It should be able to play COD4. That's it.
If you want to play it better, get a laptop with a better graphics card, ATI or nVidia.
