Im looking ofr a laptop for school so im on a budget (around 1000). I want technology that will atleast be able to keep up for the next 4 years. I have small gaming plans for this notebook: those games being Counter-Strike source and Starcraft 2. Should I be shopping for a computer with a faster CPU or a stronger GPU for these games?

Knowing this could anyone recommend any certain laptops?

I found an Asus with a 2.0 Ghz and ATI 3650 for $999 AND
    I found a Acer with a 2.2 Ghz (800 FSB 4MB cache) with a Nvidia 8600GT for $899

The asus is looking good because of the 2 year P&L and 1 year accid. warranty!!
    PLEASE HELP

2.0 should be enough for SC2. Blizzard is usually very forgiving in terms of what it takes to run their games. Both would be fine, really. I'd go with the Asus.

You should probably go to the "What laptop should I buy?" forum here. In fact, this will probably end up being moved. For that eventuality, I would also suggest you fill out the FAQ.

I've run source engine games on Intel Accelerated Graphics. It's like eating a nice steak with a cheap rusty ladle. It's certainly possible, but it's far from ideal.

With a midrange dedicated GPU you'll be sitting pretty.

If i were you id have a look at what Dell has to offer such as the M1530, im pretty sure thats below $1000 now. I reckon to be able to play games for the next 4 years you would need atleast a 8600M GT. Good luck with your search.

Wow, 4 years, that's a lot. I mean, not even the Dell 1730 with dual 8800m GTX is going to last 4 years. 2 years max.

But from those two options you have, I'd go for the Asus! :D

the Dell will be able to play for 4 years, but , the user have to play on much lower settings. settings, anyways by that time, i think it will be the time to upgrade :D

you can get a dell 1530 with the 8600gt for $1099 if you can stretch the budget a little. If you have to pick between the acer and the asus, the acer wins easily for games. Personally I would talk with dell reps on the phone and see if you can score a deal.
