Gaming On battery - Huge fps difference why?

Hey guys i have been playing alot GRID and today i ran the game on power on max battery in xp. My fps is 11 with battery when i have ac adapter in i get 35. Why is there such a huge difference this was never the case on vista?. In my task bar i have blue power battery and i have set the power to max. My laptop is fairly new. I usually have the power plugged in always but on vista i checked the fps with battery power alone and ac power the fps are about the same 1 -2 fps difference but since i went to xp there is huge fps difference why is that? Have configured the battery power different? HELP!!!!

 

Hmm my acer does that because an automatic power savings option which you have to manually adjust.

However, that does look like an xp issue. Not enough of an xp guru to say past that...

 

It is that way because your drivers downclock the GPU to save power. You can change it if you pull up control utility for the GPU you have (either nVidia or ATI, I don't know what you have).

 

Go to Power Options in Vista.. Advanced Power settings & Turn off the power saving for Graphic card...mine is under PCI since its Integrated... yours must be PCI-E.

Greg hit it right, you open up the Nvidia Control Panel and switch to the powermizer settings, you'll be able to fiddle with it there so that it doesn't downclock.

 

Yeah, Powermizer. - Kill it.

 

While would you want to game on battery? it will drop like a fly.
Unless you have a very big battery life as standard,expect no more than 1.5 h of gaming if you put it on max performance(ie kill powermizer,set power profile to always on etc).

 

^^ I was just testing . now i have new problem. Me and my friend with the same specs but the 2 difference are he has 512 mb of ram more then me but i have 512 mb of video ram and he has 256. we both have ddr 2. We both had the same graphics settings exactly. We were playing on USA track his fps never went below 40 mine.. was 30... i was lagging. WHY!!!!!!!!! and i am on xp 32 bit with 169.09 driver he has 174.Huge fps difference ,we are both running on ac. Also when we both finished playing his gpu temp was 61 mine was 88. My laptop is newer with no dust. My room temp is normal.

 

I've read the 169.09 are horrible drivers, i myself use the 174.74 and couldn't be happier

 

169.09 is by no means a horrible driver. You read that nowhere, nobody said it.

174.74 is a new and faster driver though, that is true. 169.09 is several months older, so you'll see a performance boost with 174.74.

Sorry, I have started going off the deep end with spin control. People no longer source things and often make snap judgements based on singular horror stories.

Right, so...169.09 are old, but I used them for months and they allowed my computer to play Bioshock AND Crysis when I couldn't prior.

But 174.74 is better. Though I still have a soft spot for 169.25.

 

In terms of performance 169.09 might not be the best.

But overall i would recommend 169.09 straight up

does anyone know if the powermizer options in nvidia control panel are on the drivers for my XPS m1730?, i think im on 176.** or something. im gonna check it when im at home, because the XPS has the most abysmal performance on battery, its literally unplayable, so im gonna check that out, i thought i had tried everything, never heard of the powermizer options

 

LOL,powermizer should be there if you use stock drivers.
But using stock=using outdated drivers and that`s a fashion no-no ...

 

ahhh thats me out then, im not on stock drivers lol

uninstalled them the second i got the laptop haha

also im on vista, i heard that in vista you cant see powermizer in the nvidia control panel.

i want to look into this, because im interested.

 

Some drivers, using modded infs,have no powermizer,some do.
You`ll have to ask everyone which driver they have and if it`s featuring the powermizer option.
I know from experience that 174.82 and 174.93 HAVE IT.
