Hi, I have bought a Lenovo Y650, specs to follow, and for some reason i have been having some problems with Need For Speed: Shift and AutoDesk Alias CAD program.
With NFS it installs perfectly then starts up great, runs the first video then goes through the first few menus. But then when i press start career it goes through a second video then loops till i press esc/enter then it freezes.
And with Alias it installs perfectly as well but then when running it goes to the splash screen and turns black when usually theres an image. then stays like that and i have to manually close it down.
I am pretty sure it has to do with the GPU but I dont know why and how to fix it, any one with any ideas?
Specs:
Lenovo Y650 4815
Intel Core 2 Duo P8700
Intel Mobile(R) 4 Series Chipset
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Ask if u need any other info to help out.
Thanks in advance

That's an integrated graphics card. Quite frankly, I don't think either of those would run very well at all even if they worked.

I'd suggest that you return it and get something with a dedicated GPU or at least a Nvidia/ATI IGP because the 4500MHD just ain't gonna cut it...

Your GPU was not meant to be used with 3D tasks. Sad, but true. If you plan on doing CAD, you really need a dedicated graphics card. Something in the line of a Radeon 4330 or Geforce 9300.

NFS is a heavy game. So, a dedicated GPU is a must for it.
Try to get Geforce 9600M GT GDDR3 at least, so, you can play NFS on low-medium and higher resolution and the FPS will be quite decent. If not, you have to set all to low and resolution to lowest as possible to get a decent FPS. -
Thanks to all that replied.
i know it wasnt the best choice to get a laptop without a graphics card but I was using an HP TX1000 with an integrated graphics card as well and it ran just about everything, though very crap as it should since it was only a 1.8mhz processor.
so i thought with a better processor it would run it a bit better.
So does anybody know a way around it without selling my brand new laptop that i got halfway across the world?
The gaming isnt really a must for me but the CAD i will need so any small fix would help a lot.
Thanks -
You should have done your homework before buying a laptop to use for CAD (let alone gaming). Your current laptop still has integrated graphics.
A processor upgrade will do nothing for you in the graphics department (other than perhaps a slight FPS increase). You need a better GPU. There is no way around it. You should look into what machine will fit your needs, sell your current machine, and get a new one that will handle exactly what you want it to do.
