What are your thoughts on gaming at 1280X800?

I am looking at buying Sony's new FZ laptop, but it is disapointing that it doesn't come with a 1650X1050 LCD.

Would you go with this res or wait for someone to release a good 8M gpu on a laptop with a higher res?

gaming at lower res gives better performance so its a good thing. If you have your heart set on gaming at 1680x1050 on a 15.4" screen check out the asus G1S and Zepto 6225.

I would consider a G1S if they could get me one by end of month but I don't think that will happen which is why I'm looking at Sony, although it could be that even though Sony is selling them they might not be ready for a while either.

Edit: Looks like Zepto would take 24 days. I think I need a good dose of patience.

Games look fine at 1280x800 ; I've never felt the need to have the resolution any higher, just throw on some AA and it looks great.

I usually always game at 1280x800, and I have done the same with the last few notebooks I have had (they had WXGA screens). Never had any issues, I think it's a great gaming resolution.

the point is to play at native resolution. I think 1280x800 on WXGA looks as good as 1650x1050 on WSXGA+, but everything is a little bigger

I have no problems with WXGA gaming. I don't yearn for a higher res.

You don't if it is native resolution of your notebook..if it isn't..then it is a different story.

Good to know you all like to game at 1280X800. I still think if the native was 1650X1050 it would look better to game at that than to game at 1280X800. For one more stuff could fit on the screen. Is it possible that with newer games I would have to lower the res from 1650X1050 to get the game to perform well? Talking about a new 8400M GT which is slightly faster than a go 7600.
