    Hey everyone.
My 4 year old sony viao is starting to die on me so I m in the market for a new lappy. I do play games so I fought this time I m gonna buy something more powerful. I totally in love with the M1730 and the 8800SLI sound really nice but the centrino 2 and the 9800 are almost out so I fought I would wait. Does anyone know when the 9800 will be available?? does anyone have any info or benchmarks for it. Its very tough to find some stuff regarding mobile chips from nvidia. Now, I want to buy my laptop before the summer ends and hopefully the 9800 will come out. Nevertheless, I ve seen couple other good deals like the new Asus G50 or the Gateway. They are pretty cheap for what they offer, but is it worth buying them?? Lets say if I buy the xps it will last me at least 2 years. So its $3500 for 2 years or $1700 a year. Or maybe its better to buy the midrange gaming laptop for $1250-1400 and change it for a new model the next year to keep up with the performance increase?.
    thx in advance
    Marek

Dell most likely wont be refreshing until late augest/september. So its kinda up to you if you'd like to wait. It depends on your financial situation. Personally I do the later and go mid-range and upgrade more frequently as my desktop can handle most of the powerful stuff I need to accomplish.

I just bought a Dell M1530 because it was under $1000 before taxes but if I was going to buy a super gaming laptop for $3500 I would personally go with an Alienware. But besides a gaming laptop is going to be really heavy. You would be better off just buying a nice regular laptop for under $1000 and then building a nice $2500 desktop yourself. Then you could easily upgrade it when the time came. Thats what I would do.

Skip Dell/Alienware. The Sager NP9262 will be available next month, and you can get a 9800M GT, the 1gig 9800 GTX, or even SLI 9800 GTs for less than the m1730 or the m17x.

    Edit:
    9800M GT = 8800M GTX
    9800M GTX > 8800M GTX

hmmm ... I m not sure about sager, long long time ago when the D900 series were introduced with the go6800 I just never heard good opinions about clevo. Thats weird, why they are not offering the SLI on the 9800GTX :(

They've really turned around. You'd be hard pressed to hear complaints now a days. Someone even made a thread asking for complaints because they couldn't find any.

Because it cant take the heat thats why, having SLI 9800gt 's doesnt change anything, the notebook is still at the power of 8800GTX SLI , or maybe less as some users posted low benchmarks of Single 9800gt.

Also it maybe cheap, but all the dollars you will save from buying a Dell/Alienware will be converted into Fat and Ugly looks, otherwise if the Buyer doesnt care for the Size ,weight, looks, then go for it, its your best bet.

I ve read somewhere the the 9800M gtx consumes 70W but I thought that was a mistake!! It cant be!! so they will never make the 9800GTX in the SLI available??

Thats what i'm afraid of mate.... it WILL get to SLI level. but not with the existing motherboards out right now, and when it has SLI working, the new Line-up of GPUs will be already out.

Thats no good news guys :( I m the market for a lappy now but I really wanted it last long. so its basically 9800GT SLI vs single 9800GTX. has anyone seen any benchmarks for that sager?

since a 9800gt is mostly and equal of a 8800GTX, so 8800GTX SLI should be 60% faster than a single 9800GTX atleast, so you should expect that same performance, unless SLI doesnt scale well with the 9800gt which is something i doubt.

The early D900T series had severe heat issues. As for SLI 9800M GTX, my guess is Clevo is having some issues creating the 9800M GTX SLI drivers, much like they had issues producing drivers for the SLI 8800M GTX at first. However, they did accomplish that. Additionally, Clevo has stated that 9800M GTX SLI WILL be available for the 9262.
