I'm looking at getting a headset, and I don't want to spend more than 50 bucks but I also don't want crap headphones.

2 headphones I saw that might fit my needs were the Plantronics Gamecom 367 and the Creative Fatal1ty (both are around 30 bucks from my local store).

    Plantronics: Newegg.com - PLANTRONICS GameCom 367 Closed-ear 3.5mm Circumaural Stereo Headset

    Creative: Newegg.com - Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset

Do you guys have any recommendation between these 2 or any advice? I'm using skullcandy ink'd earbuds right now and the quality is pretty nice for me so if its at least as good as these I should be happy.

Also what are your thoughts on usb versus analog connectors, the creative is usb while the gamecom is normal analog.

    Thanks!

I would honestly get a nice pair of earphones and an external mic.
A $40 set of Sennheiser earphones and a $10 desk or clip mic is worlds... no GALAXIES better than any "gaming" headset out there. The crap that they can pass off as gaming headsets wouldn't even make it out of the factory as regular headsets. Even for extreme budget earphones, most of their headsets would be so bad that the companies who make them would be laughed out of business.

Headphones are judged on a completely different scale. The bottom of the line ones are much better quality than most top end $100+ headsets.

i have the g930, basically the same thing as the g35(just wireless) They are great, they have great sound quality, bass, and surround 7.1. they are also noise canceling. basically a steal for 65 dollars.

Ignore the haters. Sure, headphones and a clip-on mic is a great solution...if you want to sound like you're on a jet aircraft with the windows open to everyone you try to talk to through that mic.

I can vouch for Plantronics making top-notch headsets. I used to have the GameCom 377, which is a ported model of the 367, which is otherwise identical. And the integrated microphone was excellent as well, according to everyone I've spoken to in Mumble, Ventrilo, Skype, and various in-game voice chats.

Myself and others have used it without issues, I am sure it depends on how you talk, where you position it, and what sound card you have it hooked up to along with your settings.

I can tell you that analogs mics greatly sound different between my cheap usb adapter and my $100+ dollar xfi card. Strangely enough I get better mic performance on the cheap use adapter.

There are too many variables at play to blame the microphone if you have bad quality, and like I just said we have examples of people using it with good SQ.

I have a $150.00 microphone now that is pro grade and so I know what a good quality microphone sounds like :D so no excuses that I just have never head a good mic before.

Guys, I'm sure the mic on the 367 is at least decent. I'm not trying to do pro recording or something anyway. But what do you think about the sound itself? Do you think it would be better than skullcandy ink'd earbuds?

I picked up Creatives Tactic 3D Alpha headset for $45. There quite good for the price and I really like the software that comes with them. Whats great is that they are analog and usb so you can plug other headphones or speakers into the usb sound card to use the EQ, surround effect and other functions in the software.

After long deliberation at the store I just picked up the gamecom 367. I could have got the Fatal1ty usb headset for $45 (gamecom was about $34) or the mark II fatal1ty for 60.

Also I was looking at the tactic 3d for $50 but those were a bit more pricey so I just thought I'd go for the 367 since its pretty cheap. Hopefully it sounds good.

I tested it a bit and its not bad. I think its somewhat better than my ink'd but I gotta test it more for sure to really compare.

Weird thing though is I think I got the 377's open ear ones. The box says 367 closed ear but if you look at the side ear muff it has open parts that looks identical to 377. I can hear my external environment extremely clearly. I will call plantronics tomorrow over this.

This is the one that I just got after my Gamecom 377 broke :( . Very comfortable and imo better than the 377. Smoother sound quality and like he said, the usb thing is great :D. Only downside is that bestbuy did not have any warranty available for this headset which means I won't be getting any free headsets when it breaks :(

After more use I can definitely see that the gamecom is far superior to my earbuds. Sound is much more clear and you hear things you never heard well on the ink'd

No warranty? Doesn't creative give you a warranty?

yea but then I'd have to do it over the phone/ internet and I'd have to ship it etc blah blah.. :p
But with bestbuy, I just go there, show them my rewards card and boom, I can pick out a new headset within the same price range.

Surely its cheaper to ship it and get the replacement then buy a whole new set?

Lol, I wondered if spending 120usd was crazy for a mic... I guess not! :D Though I end up using my m11x's webcam mic more often than not :(
