for that price get the XPS2 with the coupons out you should be able to get it for under that and its the fastest thing in gaming right now.
you can get a x600 with 256mb HP offers them in their ZD8000/Compaq X6000 so im sure others do as well, but I would say get at least a X700 or 6600Go -
If you want a 256 Meg card, the Go 6600 and Mobility Radeon X600 arn't options. The X600 Comes in 64 Meg ad 128 Meg configurations and the 6600 comes in a 128 Meg Configuration. The cards you will want to look at in the 256 Meg spec are the ATI Mobility Radeon X800 and the Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 and 6800 Ultra. For a notebook like that, try Dell (The XPS Gen 2 with a 2.0 GHz Pentium M, which is equivilwnt to a uch hiher clocked Pentium 4 and the Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 Ultra), Aleinware, Sager, VooDoo PC and Boxx (All of them sell the same Notebook with Pentium 4 Processors, GeForce Go 6800, 6800 Ultra or ATI Mobility Radeon X800 graphics and 2 Hard drives and optical drives, with RAID capability, 17-Inch High-Res screens, and a Weight of 13 Pounds. If you want something mobile, go with the XPS Gen 2.

Hi asr
sorry if this a bit off topic, but i saw in your reply u said the the ATi X600 only comes with 64 or 128 Meg configs, if this is the case, then is sony lying (or making a big mistake []) with their specifications of their new VGN-A790 (new to their A series line of VAIO noteboks), as they state that it comes with a " Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon® X600 256MB DDR SDRAM "

no they have 256 mb... it's a newer card with more memory I guess
... that or its 128 mb dedicated 128 shared with hypermemory...
atleast that's what I'd assume LOL
Dell I6000d

You might as well dismiss the "shared" portion when it comes to gaming -- anything that need to access the shared portion of video memory will run slower than molasses. lol
it's almost a marketing gimmick to qualify the machine to have 256mb of video ram with 128 of that being shared...
cheers,
yass
