    Hey,

Whats the differance between PC games and say PS2 and Xbox 360 machines.Which are better?Do you need to spend thousonds of dollars on a gaming PC with a huge graphics card and gismo processors, when you can go down the street and buy a PS2 or Xbox 360 for a fraction of the cost. Are the games and graphics ThAT much better on a PC,or are they close?

Does anyone know what hardware the game(PS2,Xbox 360) machines run?

Sorry, but never understood what the pros and cons are between the two formats.

I am abit biased on this since I have been a PC Gamer for a long time, but PCs offer more options between having the ability to download mods and patchs to just in general allowing for more open ended gaming. Also PC game devolpers can make game to new hardware faster then consoles. Your average console lifespan is 4-5 years vs PCs have a major change over in technology every 1-2 years. Today consels I think are bluring the line more now, since with xbox live now you can download to your 360 updates and mods. Consoles get the lion share of the title releases to, probably has to do with the easy of use and the fact a $500 console can play all the games the same vs a $500 can not play many games at all. Anyway, that is my two cents hope it helps alittle.

PCs are a lot more powerful than consoles, that's why they're that much more expensive, put on top of that the fact that they are computers, meant for many different processes, not just playing video games.

The reason the graphics difference isn't a gaping chasm is because games for consoles are tailor-made for said consoles. Thus they don't run into any barriers while running. Whereas, a PC game has to be able to run on all kinds of different hardware, so its true power can't really be utilized.

I'll look up the specs in a bit, you could probably google them but if you haven't gotten the answer when i check back i'll post them.

The different between the PC games and console games is that console game picture quality is decide when the game out while the PC games picture quality depend also on your PC.
Some console game can not be played on PC for many reason (control factor mainly) That is the different, there maybe more.
PC games have many features console games dont, mainly because lot of mods console dont have.
    Which are better you ask?
It depend on many reason, mainly your taste and your PC, a powerful PC can display console game quality and some people just like console and some like PC.
Normally, I think you need at least a $1000 for a powerful gaming PC, but console are more cheaper ($500 in case of PS3).
Graphic depend on your PC to be close or better than console.
For the hardware spec you can google, the Xbox360 is impressive so does the PS3, PS2 is old now.
One thing, PC can emulate PS2 but the quality never that good.
So, if you can, get both, if you dont, check your taste and wallet for PC gaming or console.
Btw, I have both PS2, Xbox, and PC for I like gaming alot.
Cheer and have a nice day

PC are just so much more functional. Games, applications, documents, burning, ripping, whatever you want to do.

True, PCs are way more expensive and at this point in time, are not actually more powerful then consoles for once - Develeopers have said that PS3 versions of games are running faster then PC versions.

I have an Xbox 360 and its nice but to be honest I play my PC ten times more. People claim X360 Live is better then pc gaming but I choose playing Battlefield on my PC 10 times outta 10 over playing my xbox over live.

Consoles are great fun, especially with friends, but will never replace PCs or take them over.

The PS3 is comparable to a PC, but it's not as powerful.

The games run faster because either they're made specifically for the console, or, because the pc is running more than just the game itself. There's the entire operating system to deal with as well.

Spec-wise PCs will probably always be better than consoles, the PS3 is cutting it rather close though, but it approaches PCs in price anyway...

If you didn't see, by the way, Microsoft is making a XBL client for the PC, with full functionality of the one for the 360, also allowing you to play with those on 360s on your pc.

    Check this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=60957

Maybe they'll be nice and not make it a service you have to pay for continuously... Of course, they're never nice...

PS3 is now MORE powerful than a PC(Multitaskin wise), just because that it has 8 cores compared to the 4cores of wat AMD gonna hav later. But within 12 months(my guess), PC is goin to take back the crown.

I'm talking about overall, though. The GPU in it isn't as good as it can get in a PC, the hard drive isn't as big.. Etc. Just all the components that make up the thing. I think I was being a bit vague on that.

As long as this thread doesn't turn into a PC vs console war, it's fine with me.

My opinion is the consoles and PCs are two different realms. The two can't be compared from my point of view.

Playin RPG on a console feels just better than on a PC..(just mayb TV is bigger than computer screens)

I kind of look at PC being another console. There are games you can get on PS2, but not Xbox or PC. Then there are games you can get for all. The only beef I have with PC is that things change way too fast. You can buy a PS2 or PS3, and use that same system for four or five years, and the games only get better looking as developers start learning how to optimize the hardware and software they can work with. With a PC, you get 1-2 good years out of it, then you have to start downscaling games just to play them at decent frame rates. Still, games are games, and I love some games. :)

    To sum this up quickly
Keyboard and mouse > controller for any game any day (except maybe a few racing games)

I prefer a dekstop as a gaming machine, but I must say consoles can be fun too. Just look at the Wii, it looks fantastic!

3Dmarks wouldn't be possible to run on consoles without Futuremark making software for them

That is impossible I am afraid. Your only comparison is to look at games that are supported by these platforms. Look at Splintercell for Xbox, PS2, PC. These days the PC is the winner, then the Xbox then the PC.

The PS3 is special. Its not your traditional console, and it dosent have 8 processors cores like you think of, such as a computer has 2. Oh and also, Intel has a quad core processor too, it was shown a long time ago. But back to the PS3, it has a Cell processor. Its brand new. I dont believe there is a dedicated GPU on it. The 8 cell processors do everything in conjunction, graphics, physics, etc. So you could say it has integrated graphics, but it has 8 super powerful and very connected processing core's to do it all on. It will be the creame of the crop when it comes out, unless nvidia keeps going at the rate they are.Quad-SLI (2x 7950GX2) does has 6 teraflops of power, while the 360 has 1 terflop of power. So there are PC's already 6 times more poweful than the 360. So with that the PS3 may already be beat, we'll have to wait to find out.

I have all the systems and also a powerful desktop gaming system. Love both !! The difference to me is more of a *alone* experience or a *party* experience. playing console sports games on a big HDTV with 3 friends with beer and snacks around using wireless controllers is very fun and can not recreat the same experience with a PC set up. (no beer n chips allow near my $$$ PC lol)

PC is more for *alone* gaming experience in the way that you are by yourself logging into servers to meet friends up or whatnot, or play rts/ simulation games with mods and other stuff.

For me it depends. You can't play a game in HDTV on a 60in screen from your couch with a PC but you can with consoles of course if you have the cash you can get a better resolution from a 30in monitor with a pc... Consoles are also superior for certain games-racing and sports for instance. Pc's are best for FPS and RTS games. Also some games are exclusive to certain platforms

I just use all the consoles and pcs :)

I beg to differ. There are so many things to the PS3 which make it completely worth it in my mind. I find it funny how so many people say $600 is so much to spend for a console, but have no problem spending $400 on an Xbox 360 (not to say that that's you wildelaney). The 360 doesn't have HDMI, doesn't even play HD-DVDs, isn't as powerful, overheats, doesn't have Bluetooth, has a smaller hard drive, all that. It just seems a little a funny to me. Or people who say that PS3 is a rip but will spend an extra $100-$250 on a high end PC GPU, $100-$200 for a faster processor, and another $100-$200 for 2 gigs RAM, and another $50-$150 for a 7200RPM hard drive, all to play the latest PC games. Sure, computers do other things, but if you don't plan on gaming, you can get an E1505 for under $1000 that will do nearly everything a gaming machine will except game. Just food for thought. :)

PC's offer more customizing towards the gamer. Joystic, mouse, keyboard or what ever gizmo they comeout with. You can you use one or a few of them to play. Think of the screen...Can you adjust your xbox's resolution? Resolution has more to do with then just how good it looks. Not to mention game server customizations, which number into the hundreds.
In general you customize your pc for yourself and then customize your setup for the game(and all other applications). Where a console is made for the masses. Like anything in life though, customization costs $$$$$.
