I just though I would get an opinion from you lads, let me explain mine.

I have these amazing memories of gaming from my younger years and I want those names to be forever immortalized.

They recently brought back a game from the past by making a sequel and it got utterly destroyed... Namely Red Alert 3...
Im scared they will do that to other games...

I want my other heroes to stay heroes, ie. Duke Nukem, Earthworm Jim, etc...

    my opinion is all :)

Unfortunately probably won't be that way. People want sequels of successful games, the same way for movies. Granted sequels frequently aren't as good as the original, but I think a lot of that has to do with losing the "newness" of the original game.

I like sequels, only if they put the effort in that they did for the original.

I know... I cant tell you how worried I am about Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2...

I know its still blizzard making them but gaming has evolved passed that formula, I just hope they can deliver...

I need a new pair of pants every time I think of this...

Im not a diablo person... but as far as starcraft II, im still excited, and not that worried.
if you look at the trailers and whatnot, its just the same old game we remember. THe terran CC looks the same and the units too. It's just they made everything SUPER pretty now! lol. And added new units. So its just like a touchup of the game we remember. As opposed to new games where they might completely change the game into something hideous not at all like the original

Have to agree about Red Alert. With all the new games coming out, I still like Red Alert 2. They ruined it with 3.

RA3 is not that bad. Although I dislike the apocalypse... I kinda liked them more in the original(s)...
"Soviet power supreme" , when said by that voice...just sent chills down my spine...
    Yuri...even better...

Yeah I know what ya mean. A game would be awesome then they release a newer one and it just is horrible. Same thing with movies, the first one is usually the best then you feel like there trying too hard on the others.

    "I AM the apocalypse"

"It will sooon be a wasteland..."

I also liked the Soviet Desolators (radiation soldiers), they were hilarious. Especially when they were screaming: "I AM THE SUN!" while they were melting enemy troops left and right.

    :D

I'm not really sure how I feel about sequels. I don't hate them just for the fact that they're sequels and all, but they do sometimes kind of ruin my image of the previous game. I think that sequels have more chance of actually coming out fun to play and having the same, familiar, awesome atmosphere of their predecessors if as much of the original development team is kept in place as possible.

For example, I know one of the original designers for Red Alert and I know that he was not on the Red Alert 3 dev team. Perhaps if he was, more of that original feeling and atmosphere would have stuck with the new game.
