    Currently have M17X r3 with 2720 6970m with ssd.
It runs all the games i have perfectly fine.
But want to game on big monitors such as 24 to 27 inch.
I wanted to get 120hz monitor(dont care about 3d) but seems like theres no way to run 120hz with this laptop.
So my question is 120hz worth it? I will need to build desktop from scratch.
Seems desktop prices went down alot compare to 3 years ago when I moved on gaming laptop.
Playing diablo3, sc2, and plan to start new mmorpgs.
Also I want alot of tv shows, movies, etc.

Another option is to find someone with m17x r3 with 460m 120hz monitor to trade.

There's no point. I have a 120hz monitor and the difference between 60hz and 120hz is almost unnoticeable. People will tell you that there should be no difference at all because of the way human vision works, but mainly I only notice that the mouse point looks more "solid" when you move it around. Kind of hard to explain, but the difference is minimal and not worth switching to a 120hz monitor if you're not going to use 3D.

I would say it's absolutely not worth it considering the type of investment you would need to put towards it. The difference is not quite non-existent, but is definitely marginal.

And, if your frame rate is not above 60, then you're not going to get any benefit out of a 120 hz monitor. That means that all this capital you are putting up is going to be pointless once new games come out that stress your graphics system enough to keep you below 60 frames per second.

I would say just try to target ~60 fps on modern games by increasing your graphics settings and enjoy having your games look good. Use higher levels of AA or higher quality AA, and use higher quality texture filtering methods and more aniso filtering.

you really need to do some research and go find a couple screens and see how the ghosting is. A true 120hz screen should have less ghosting then a 60hz IPS but some IPS sadly get close to them in ghosting. Go to tft central and look up their reviews and compare the difference and see if you think it is worth while. I find 120hz screen extremely lacking in response times. I would have thought they would have been better. I almost want to get a CRT for gaming when I get a desktop.
