So I bought a xbox 360 wired controller for my laptop and to play co-op with some Halo Anniversary. It took a minute for the xbox to read the controller, but in the end it worked for the xbox 360.

When I tried to use it on my laptop Windows gave me a message telling me that the usb device isn't recognizable or something like that. When I plug it in the lights around the xbox symbol all light up together, but then nothing happens after that.

I tried to download some drivers for Windows 7 64 bit but I either downloaded the incorrect drivers, those drivers sucked or something else is wrong and I don't know what it is.

Do any of you game with the 360 controller on your pc? Have any of you ever experienced this issue? If so please help me out here! Thanks in advance.

    UPDATE:

I returned the item to Best Buy and got a new one. As soon as I plugged the new one into the usb port it automatically installed the drivers and now I'm good to go. It was a defective product I guess. I'll let you know how it works with MW3 as soon as I try it.

Is it a genuine microsoft controller or a 3rd party knock off?

Only the genuine product is supported by windows via native drivers, anything 3rd party they would have to supply there own drivers for it to work on PC and it could be limited in support as it would just be a gamepad not "xbox 360 controller" which you can probably get around mostly with the 360 controller emulator.

Baka has played using the wired Xbox360 controller just fine on Baka's laptop and it never failed to read the device ._.

Now, Baka just uses a PS3 controller with motionjoy to emulate the 360 controller. It's smaller and easier to carry for Baka.

Also, doesn't microsoft provide drivers for such controllers? ._. Like here

I got a knockoff wireless adapter + genuine wireless Xbox 360 controller.
After i installed the required drivers for the adapter then Windows will grab the drivers needed for my controller.

That is debatable, its comfortable, has high compatibility due to MS being the one who backs the controller but I have had many siutations where the wiimote or playstation 3 controller were better fit for a game.

The dpad sucks on the 360 controller.

Let me say that again THE D-PAD SUCKS ON THE 360 CONTROLLER

Also for wireless you need a adapter while the PS3 & Wii controllers both work without any expensive adapter via bluetooth.

Shmups or Fighters? A good joystick like the mad catz TE is better.

So there is no best, only best for the situation.

I know this is old and a little off topic, but the Wii controller will work on any PC with BT? For any game? Or do you have to map the buttons and such?

Yep! Defective product sounds right to me. I got a 360 on launch and tried plugging it into my (then XP) PC, worked just swell.

Sometimes games won't let you use every control surface, especially the triggers, but it can make some games more enjoyable.
