Im looking at the Dell E1705, and it has a 17in 1440x900 screen. I was doing the math and a game with 1024x768 would be be rectangle centered in the Screen with a width ~10in.

I just think thats kind of small and it would probobly get on my nerves.

So I want to know... what happens when you run it at 1280x960? Does it nicely resize it to 1200x900 to take up most of the screen as possible... or does it keep the 1280x960 and just cram it all in there giving it that rough look?

I can't swear to specific resolutions, or to all games, but several of my games can be easily "hacked" for alternate resolutions. The Battlefield 1942 game was created before the popularity of the 1280 x 1024 resolution many desktop LCDs require, and did not offer it in the ingame options. It was very easy to open the setup.ini files with notepad and change the resolution to the required settings. I would imagine this is not too unusual.

I think changing resolutions is certainly possible... I'd go to the game's website and email their technical support team for assistance.

edit: I'll be sure to let you know as soon as my new laptop gets here.... HURRY HURRY HURRY!

He is correct. Most games either have the widescreen resolutions or can be hacked. I play WOW on 1440x900 on my I9300 and it is great. You can see the ends of the bars :).

Is it difficult to find out how to "hack" the resolution for each game?

Also is it true widescreen or is the picture just stretched out?

And I have no idea what you are talking about with the "bars" lol. I'm not a WoW fan.....Yet.

Most of the time you can just google it and it will take you to a site on how to do it. God Bless Google.

Some games look a little stretched, but alot of games support widescreen because of people that hookup TV's and etc to their comps.

i was interested in looking to play some games that didnt have widescreen resolutions too. after looking at this thread it made me search for it and then i found a forum thats just for it and they offer a variety of games that can be hacked. Some games with stretched resolutions for widescreen and some with normal widescreen resolution. Anyway you go check out

there is not much support for widescreen gaming on the pc but that will hopefully improve with the release of the xbox 360 and the ps3(games on both will be hd which is widescreen.) Btw i just want to say EA sucks because almost all of their pc games don't support widescreen at all even though the console one does eg need for speed most wanted and nba live 06. its so **** irritating when you know that they can implement it but they don't. Someone should really bring this up in some EA board room meeting or something.
