Will it affect the graphics of the next gen games if my native screen res is 1440x900? I'm thinkin of just going with lower res b/c it's cheaper...it's either gonna have 2 SLI 7950GTX's or 1 8800GTX with 17inch screen.

if you're willing to pay premium for top of the line graphics card why not just go for the best screen for little extra? and i doubt you'll be able to play all the latest games above 1440x900 with every effects maxed out.

Alternatively, which one kinda defeat the purpose of portability, is to play it on an external monitor. But in answer to your query, the games are designed to play on almost any types of screen settings, however, most of the higher end games are optimized for higher res, some would argue you wouldn't notice the difference while others swear you will. One thing for sure you will be under-utilizing your SLI

You have a higher chance to run games longer in native if you go with 1440x900. In my opinion 1920x1200 is too much for a laptop to handle gaming wise. I have one myself and I could play newer games before in native but have to run in lower res to get acceptable framerates.

This means the whole picture gets blurrier too, not by much but it is noticable. So go with 1440x900 and you can play your games sharp for a while :)
