Heres what im looking at getting. I want a decent setup that can play WoW at near max settings and oblivion. Let me know what you think

    HP Pavilion dv9207us
    17'' Screen
    Core Duo 1.73ghz T2250
    2GB Ram
    GeForce Go 7600 256mb
    120 GB 5400RPM

Also is there a huge difference between the core and core 2? is that processor really going to hold me back?

The difference between core and core 2 is that it adds 64 bit capability (which in most cases does NOT speed it up) and a ~20% increase in number crunching speed. Since you are playing games however, your frame rate is more dependent on your GPU.

On my laptop (i use the same GPU), I can do max WoW settings, but definitely NOT on Oblivion. This is because along with the age difference between the two games, Oblivion just has a heck of a lot more 'stuff' going on at once. That said, Oblivion does play very well. Just don't expect any anti-alias, HDR, or shadows outdoors if you want a decent framerate (although, since you have more system ram than me, you'll fare better).

I would suggest you get a Core 2 Duo, just so you have the 64 bit capability, since that is where the future of every piece of software out there will (eventually) go.

If you really want an ultimate gaming laptop your going to need at least a 7900GTX/7950GTX/X1900 video card in it.

But the 7600 256mb should easily Max out WoW and Oblivion should run good on medium-high.
