If I decided to buy a machine with the Quadro FX 3700M, what is the best way to set it up for gaming?
    • Just use the Quadro drivers
    • Just do a straight install of the GeForce drivers (for which card though?)
    • Install some optimized 3rd party nVidia drivers (again, which card should I target?)

are you going to mainly use it for just gaming?

If so, then it might not be worth it since it only outperforms the 9800M GTX by a mere 5-10% in overall gaming performance.

If you are using it for gaming and 3D design work, then it should due very fine... the best for mobile 3D workstations.

You will have to use drivers that will specifically support the 3700M, either through Nvidia or LaptopVideo2Go
.... testing will tell you which ones will give better performance/stability/etc...

The support for quadro drivers is really good so that shouldnt be a problem

if i had to choose i would take the 3700 over the 9800 GTX are you interested in a Precision M6400? If so that an excellent notebook and a fine choice.

i mean after all you are a rich carpenter :D

if I were to get a Quadro 3700M.... definitely get the best notebook... the king.

    Clevo D901C..... 17" WUXGA with Q9650, 4GB+ DDR2, three 500GB HDDs, Blu-ray drive.

    thats mobile workstation ownage. :D

Not to mention that the D901C has the best thermal design to date for any notebook... let alone high-end notebooks. ;)

4 separate heatsink-fan units in one laptop, pretty neat.
unless your gonna carry it around all the time.

My D900K is the same weight and size as the D901C.

I do not mind since I am using a good notebook backpack.

The D901C is still better than carrying around a mini desktop system with LCD of the same/similar specs and performance.

I've actually been looking at the Lenovo W700ds. It looks to be noticeably lighter than the typical 17" gaming powerhouse, and the slide out 10.6" secondary display would be hugely useful to me for work (business applications developer).

It will probably be 50/50 work/play. I'm not too concerned with squeezing every last FPS possible out of it. I just want it to provide a very good gaming experience in games like Fallout 3, WoW, Sins of a Solar Empire and Diablo III.
