I thought they jumped the price up to $1599, now it says $1349 with $150 off.

Has it been determined if the 1.67GHz CPU is good enough in general for gaming? I think Best Buy probably ordered a crapload of these because initial demand was so high, raised the price, now they have to get rid of them because nobody bought them for $1599.

Wasn't there another Gateway coming out soon with a better CPU and possibly added extras for about $1300?

you will be able to play all games in thwe world at high settings even Crysis. You can also upgrade the CPU to 2,8 GHz if you feel like it

So, would you think it would be worth it to sell the Vostro in my sig and replace it with this one? Problem is that I don't care to spend another $300+ for an updated CPU, plus I'll have to buy another copy of Windows XP Pro because I despise Vista at the moment (just bad experiences so far).

    All in all It would be $1200 + $72 Tax + $140 WinXP Pro = $1412

What do you think my Vostro would sell for?

    I'd be sacrificing:
    - 2.20GHz CPU vs 1.67GHz
    - 1680x1050 matte vs 1440x900 glossy
    - 2 lbs heavier, slightly larger footprint

    but gaining:
    - 8800 GTS over 8600 GT
    - 3GB vs 2GB RAM
    - 17" vs 15.4" screen

If I could sell my Vostro for about $1000 it might be worth it, but then again, is an 8800 GTS worth $400+ in performance increase?

you'll not likely get $1,000 for it. maybe $800. if you decide to sell it on ebay you'll get even less with fees.

    All in all It would be $1200 + $72 Tax + $140 WinXP Pro + $300 CPU = $1712

might as well go for a Sager. if i were you i'd wait for something better. it's not like Gateway is suddenly going to stop the FX line with 8800 GTS.

Well Best Buy IS out of stock in the entire metro Detroit area. Funny thing is that I saw someone buy one when I was at BB on Monday, and didn't think much of it until I came across the sale. Looks like there were a few in stock.

I'm going to wait. The more I use my laptop the more I think I will look for a desktop replacement down the road. Too damn convenient now to be able to port it around the house and occassionally on the road.

As little as I take it on the road a 17" would suffice I'm realizing, however battery time is the biggest concern with the larger desktop replacments.
