Alright, so my friend needs to get a laptop since he's moving out and going to college soon. and the only game he plays on PC is WoW.
After scouring craigslist I found a Gateway p-7811FX for $999.
My friend is pretty hardcore in his WoW playing and so he needs to be able to play without lag and be able to run 2-3 instances of the game simultaneously. (only one instance being used at a time)
So is this laptop good for this game?? The GeForce 9800 looked awesome but I just wanted to check and see if the 2.26 intel core 2 duo will be a problem if he's running a couple instances of the game at a time.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks!![]()

omg lol, you got to be kiding my 3 year old comp can play WOW max with a ati x300 crappy gpu at 1440X900 screen.
-
WoW?
It will blow through that game. -
The 9800m GTS gpu in that laptop is one of the best high-end cards for laptops.
I would definitely recommend you go for that one as the new expansion increased the hardware demands (primarily in graphics) for the game and you mentioned he'll be playing 2 or 3 instances of the game (one at a time).
As for the cpu ... Intel Core2Duo 2.26Ghz (is it a P8400 by any chance?) should be MORE than adequate as it's a newest Montevina technology and shouldn't be a bottleneck AT ALL (unless he'll be playing GTA IV which has issues running on a quad core cpu even due to high use of physics).
Bottom line is, that laptop should be able to play Crysis (original) at high settings in native resolution without a problem.
So WoW won't be an issue at all. -
wow is nothing. even the 9100m will run it
-
Will it run WoW - yes.
Will it get always 60 fps maxed out @ 1920 X1200 - No
My fps drops to 50's in Northrend villages.
The game is very CPU dependant tho. Going to 3.2 GHz seems to add 5 - 10 fps.
I do run the game with maximum view distance and all the goodies availiable tho, so if you reduce it you will be able to get away with smooth frames even on a laptop, but then you will be missing out on landscape goodiness. -
I was able to max everything out and get 50-60 fps w/ a 7811 FX you'll have an even better experience
-
with the new expension WOW is quite demanding but it should run very well. Yotano211 however does not have a clue what he is talking about.

Yep its the P8400.
And yeah I was really just worried about the CPU being a bottleneck for that GPU. However it sounds like it should be perfect for what my friend is looking for.
Thanks for all the help everyone! Time to take an hour drive into the snow to go get this! -
Maxed settings with shadows on low and the game flies on similar hardware.
-
Current bug prevents shadows of higher levels to display properly on SLI - enabled PC's, but it only affects shadows under ur characters which is not significant.
Could you specify your system, game settings, res and exact amount of fps in Dalaran?
What is more peculiar, however, is the fact that the game appears to be CPU limited as well, I would really like to see how much fps would my card get if plugged into a O/C Skulltrail PC, with 6 Ghz CPU, as this would entirely eliminate CPU bottleneck.
