According to Chaz's GPU guide, the 7150M is rated as better performing than the X3100, yet NotebookCheck rates the X3100 higher than the 7150M here.

I'm looking at a laptop which has 2 variants, 1 which comes with the 6150 or the 7150, and the other which comes with the X3100.

I do play some games, but my choice currently is only limited to this. Do not ask me to search for another laptop with another GPU. Just provide me comments on which one is better.

    Thanks. :)

Take the 7150m over the X3100 if that's the only two options you're offered.

I've used hp dv6000's with both; the 7150m wouldn't even run Aero while the x3100 would run it fine. From my experience the x3100 is better.

x3100 is better as far as that goes but you should at least try to get the x4500. but for basic stuff the intel cards are good. driver support sucks tho.

I reckon if the OP does play games then the reduced Aero support on the 7150m is a fair tradeoff for better performance in many games.

There's a thread around here somewhere that has X3100 users doing some very impressive things for integrated graphics. Apparently the recent driver updates are good.

If this helps, I can play call of duty 2 at med settings, and bf2 on all low on my macbook which uses the x3100.

Well, it seems like more people support X3100, yet reviews proved that the 7150M is a better pick.

    It's like a tug-of-war. :p

I remember there were two threads about this, I've played some games on both GPU and found out that the 7150m is better at Direct 3d games while the x3100 outperforms the 7150m in openGL (it appears clearly in Enemy territory and Frets on Fire, the 7150m can barely run Frets on Fire), that's for the old games , never try the new ones on the 7150m.
But the recent drivers of x3100 since last year is pretty good, only real problem with Warcraft III has been fixed I heard. I'd support the x3100 also
But really, if you want to do some gaming try to get a laptop with at least a HD3200. And u should specific what game u wanna play also.

Yes Intel seems to be better when it comes to OpenGL. My Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (yes I'm still living in that era) settings have OpenGL settings, but Direct3D is nowhere to be seen.

What's the difference between Direct3D and OpenGL?

I notice that the open GL games is more sharpness and brighter than Direct 3d games, while direct 3d games looks warmer and darker.

so i suppose it`s depends what percentage of games are directx and how many opengl , and what game you want to play.

Hmm I had no idea that the 7150M was that competent. Color me impressed.

What are some of the popular Direct3D and OpenGL games?

Oh and Pulp I'm awaiting your opinion. :)
