I was wondering how the Gefore 9750GTX is in the noise and heat department as well as the MAX battery life I could get in a perfect world. Thanks, Peace.

The 7950GTX should be just as quiet as any other dedicated graphics option while it may give off a little more heat but nothing too noticeable in a 17" notebook I believe.

While on battery life the 7950GTX will downclock (a.k.a. powermizer) itself to save power but don't expect to get to much battery life out of a 17" laptop anyways. You will only find the 7950GTX in a 17" laptop or greater.

How hot or cool a notebook runs is almost completely dependent on the cooling system and the actual design of the machine. I've used a laptop with a top-of-the-line video card and a desktop processor and it ran completely cool:

So, take a look at reviews for the laptop you are interested in and see what they say.

BTW, did you know that 7950GTX while having the same power consumption as 7900GTX, has higher core and memory clocks and therefore more performance?

The 9750GTX ought to be awesome. To bad it won't be released for another year, year and a half.

I'm running the 7950GTX and I must say that I'm very pleased.

Games like Oblivion on 1920X1200 on the highest settings, anti-aliasing, anisotrophic filtering and the like, it plays seamlessly.

The only thing keeping this laptop of mine from being a monster is the fact that it has Vista on it. lol...

In terms of battery life, with brightness maxed, and listening to music, it tells me it's good for about 2.5 hours.

If I darken the screen some and place the laptop into the "Dell Preferred" or "Battery Saver" power options they have, then it can be up to double that...but the sacrifice in performance is a big thumbs down to me.

I was wondering why NFS: Carbon ran like uber crap when I was trying to show it off outside one day, and then I realized the power settings were killing the performance.

All in all, as it's been said, you can't expect good battery life out of a 17", and especially not when you're running top-of-the-line parts..

But you won't hear ME complaining.

    :D
