Hello, I think I want a Geforce go 8600 in my laptop. But I'm worried about power consumption.
Will the go 8600, which will be the new mid-high end GPU, be comparable with the go 7600 in terms of power consumption? Or will it be likely they will only improve the power of the card (how good it will run games), and not the power consumption?
Thank you for your replies.

Well the 8600Go is 80 nm, which means that it should have a low power consumption. But because the card is faster, the power consumption will be higher but still comparable with a 7600Go.
But we have very little information about the 8600Go. So it is just a matter of waiting now. -
That's true. It's nice to hear it's comparable to the go 7600, thanks for your quick reply.

There are different claims on the matter. Some say it's way worse and some say it's better...
We've got to wait and see... -
The 8600gts (which is the top mid-range product) is about the same or better than a 7900gs. It really shines in shader intensive games such as Oblivion or Stalker. The 7900/7950gtx will still overpower it but in shader intensive games that gap is significantly less.
8600gts is clearly a mid-range GPU solution, but a good one if you don't want absolutel screaming performance in a laptop but more the featureset. It'll get the job done in most cases just fine... If you are wanting high-end then you'll have to wait until the G80M, G81M, or similar varients come out. From what I've read that might be this May or June, so on the heals of these mid-range anyway. Well, for the G80M at least. The G81M will be this fall it looks like. What is interesting is it looks like the G80M will be built more on the aspects of the G81 anyway, but that's speculation atm.
ATI mobility products should become available around the same timeframe, although this is a bit more uncertain atm. -
What does G80M and G81M stand for? (G probably GeForce, 8 = 8 series, M = mobile) What is the difference between the 0 and the 1? Has it anything to do with DirectX 10.1?

Right, it might be a varient of the G81, which is simply going to be the next die shrink of the G80... which translates into faster speeds and lower power.

There is also some stuff on Wikipedia about it :

Ah, wikipedia helped me out, thanks for the link.
GeForce 8 series, better power management?
